FYI: At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari unveiled its first hybrid hypercar, the LaFerrari, setting a new standard for the future of supercars.
The Landmark Debut of LaFerrari
At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, attendees experienced a game-changing moment as Ferrari introduced its pioneering hybrid hypercar, aptly named LaFerrari. Known simply as "The Ferrari," this breathtaking vehicle stands as a milestone in the company’s history, marking their first foray into hybrid technology for roadgoing cars.
Unquestionable Power and Engineering Marvel
While other supercar manufacturers like McLaren and Porsche were also exploring hybrid models, Ferrari distinguished itself by incorporating a 12-cylinder engine, staying true to its heritage. Nestled within a carbon-fiber monocoque similar in size to the preceding Enzo, the LaFerrari boasts a 6.2-liter V-12 engine paired with a 120-kilowatt electric motor. This combination yields a staggering total output of 950 horsepower—789 from the V-12 and an additional 161 from the electric motor.
Exclusive Pedigree and Limited Production
Succeeding iconic models like the Enzo, the LaFerrari continues Ferrari’s storied tradition of mid-engine flagship supercars that began with the 288 GTO. With only 500 units produced, its exclusivity was further accentuated by Ferrari’s decision to offer the car solely to an elite group of loyal clients. Production spanned from mid-2013 to early 2016.
A Standout Specimen
One such LaFerrari, delivered through Ferrari San Diego in July 2015, features a rare and desirable configuration: Nero with black wheels and Giallo calipers, complemented by Nero leather upholstery. It includes several carbon-fiber elements such as wing mirror stalks, fog lamps, and front and rear splitters. Enhanced with a telemetry kit, large-size seats, and a black sports exhaust, this car is as practical as it is powerful. To maintain its immaculate condition, the vehicle is fully wrapped in protective film with optional yellow pinstriping.
Preserved and Protected
This pristine LaFerrari was displayed at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in Carmel, California, and has been meticulously maintained at Ferrari San Francisco. With fewer than 4,000 miles before being acquired by its current owner in August 2017, it now shows just under 5,000 miles. The vehicle comes with original books, tools, luggage, battery charging kit, and service records, making it a distinguished example of Ferrari’s innovative hybrid hypercar.
The Ultimate Ferrari
The LaFerrari stands as a pinnacle of Ferrari’s road-car achievement, part of a lineage of era-defining supercars including the 288 GTO, F40, F50, and the Enzo. This exceptional vehicle will be available at RM Sotheby’s 27th annual Monterey sale during Monterey Car Week, from August 15-17. For more details and to register your bid, visit RMSothebys.com.
