FYI: Maserati Recalls Redesigned 2024 GranTurismo Over Faulty Fuel Gauge Software
Maserati has initiated a recall for its recently redesigned 2024 GranTurismo models due to a software issue that may cause the cars to display incorrect fuel levels. This recall affects a total of 524 vehicles, comprising 454 GranTurismo coupes and 70 GranCabrio convertibles.
Software Malfunction Identified
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem lies in the body control module’s software, which controls the digital fuel level indicator. Affected models could misleadingly show more fuel in the tank than is actually present, potentially leading to the vehicle running out of fuel and stalling while being driven. Despite the severity of the issue, Maserati has assured that no accidents or injuries have been reported so far related to this malfunction.
Maserati’s Plan of Action
Maserati will address the issue by updating the body control module software, a service that will be provided free of charge to the vehicle owners. Notification letters are set to be mailed out to owners on October 28th. For additional information, impacted customers can contact Maserati’s Customer Service at 1-877-696-2737. The reference number for this recall is 749.
Vehicle Overview
Launched in the United States in 2023 as a 2024 model, the new GranTurismo debuted in 2022, succeeding the version that ended production in 2019. The redesigned model boasts a twin-turbo V6 engine and a modernized interior featuring three screens. The GranCabrio Convertible sibling also made its debut earlier this year.
Importantly, this malfunction does not affect the GranTurismo Folgore, the electric variant powered by three electric motors. Maserati is also planning to introduce the GranCabrio Folgore for the 2025 model year as part of their broader strategy to expand their lineup of electric vehicles under the Folgole banner, which means "lightning bolt" in Italian.
