Ford Unleashes Refreshed 2025 Maverick Pickup: Now with All-Wheel-Drive Hybrid
Ford has introduced a refreshed version of its popular compact unibody truck, the Maverick. The 2025 model comes with exciting updates, including the much-awaited option of pairing Ford’s powerful 2.5-liter hybrid engine with all-wheel drive.
Maverick: Success Story Continues
The Ford Maverick has been a significant success for Ford. Last year alone, the company sold a remarkable 94,000 units, with more than half being hybrids. So far in 2023, 77,000 Mavericks have already rolled off the lot. Remarkably, most Maverick buyers have never purchased a truck before, affirming Ford’s claim that this is the ultimate gateway truck.
Engine Options and Capabilities
For 2025, the Maverick offers a robust 2.5-liter hybrid engine that generates 191 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. This engine is mated to an electronically controlled CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). When equipped with the towing package, the Maverick can haul up to 4,000 pounds, with a bed capacity of 1,500 pounds. The all-wheel-drive models still maintain a robust carrying capacity of 1,400 pounds.
Additionally, the Maverick continues to offer a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, delivering 238 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque paired with an eight-speed transmission. This engine variant provides the same towing capacity as the hybrid. While front-wheel drive is standard on hybrids, the EcoBoost variant is now exclusively all-wheel drive.
New Design and Features
Buyers looking for a distinctive appearance can choose the new black package, featuring a black roof, black 19-inch wheels, and other trim pieces. Various styling updates have also been introduced, including new L-shaped headlights, a redesigned bumper, and silver accents for a premium feel on the XLT and Lariat trims.
Inside, the Maverick features a significant tech upgrade, replacing the older 8-inch display with a sophisticated 13.2-inch screen. Furthermore, advanced features like Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist are standard on higher trims, making towing much easier. A 360-degree camera system and Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities, including adaptive cruise control and lane centering, are also available on higher trims.
Pricing and Availability
Starting at $27,890 (which includes a $1,595 delivery charge), the new Maverick remains the most affordable truck in its class. Pricing for the top trims is yet to be announced. Familiar trim levels such as XL, XLT, and Lariat return, but the prominent Off-Road Tremor Package now sits at the top of the lineup as its standalone trim level.
Ford has announced that orders for the 2025 Maverick will commence from August 1, with the first deliveries expected in late 2024. Additionally, Ford plans to introduce the new Lobo, a street performance model inspired by the SEMA show car, to the Maverick lineup.
Conclusion
The updated 2025 Ford Maverick combines outstanding versatility, advanced technology, and multiple engine options, making it a highly attractive option for both new and seasoned truck buyers. With its hybrid variant now available with all-wheel drive, Ford has upped the ante, ensuring the Maverick remains a dominant force in the compact truck market.
