FYI: Toyota’s 2025 GR Corolla is set to roll out with exciting updates, including a high-performance automatic transmission and various powertrain enhancements.
Toyota GR Corolla 2025: Enhanced with Speed and Precision
Like a fine wine, the Toyota GR Corolla’s refinement over time is unmistakable. Toyota recently revealed updates for the 2025 GR Corolla, poised to elevate the compact hot hatch to new heights as it enters its third year on sale. The headline update? The introduction of an automatic transmission alongside its traditional six-speed manual.
High-Performance Automatic Transmission
This isn’t any ordinary automatic transmission. Developed by Toyota’s Gazoo Racing motorsports division, this new eight-speed direct automatic gearbox integrates rally-honed expertise. Initially launched in the GR Yaris overseas, the direct automatic promises to surpass manual transmission in delivering exceptional track performance.
The sophisticated transmission system features predictive software that adjusts shifts based on driving behavior. Beyond standard metrics like G-forces and speed during deceleration, it also assesses the driver’s acceleration and braking patterns, allowing it to anticipate gear changes efficiently. For enthusiasts, paddle shifters are included to manually control gear transitions.
Increased Torque and Enhanced Chassis
The 2025 GR Corolla retains its turbocharged 1.6-liter inline three-cylinder engine, which continues to power all four wheels through an adaptable all-wheel-drive system. Notably, maximum torque has increased from 273 to 295 pound-feet, while peak power remains steady at an impressive 300 horsepower.
Toyota has also fine-tuned the chassis to bolster traction during intense cornering. Enhancements include:
- Rebound Springs: Added at both front and rear to minimize wheel lift during sharp turns.
- Revised Rear Coilovers and Stabilizers: These adjustments aim to maximize tire grip through corners.
- Elevated Trailing Arms: This change reduces rear squat during acceleration, contributing to greater cornering stability.
Design Tweaks and New Models
The 2025 model features a refreshed front fascia that accommodates optional cooling components, such as a sub-radiator, while maintaining optimal aerodynamics. Inside, new trim materials, including flat surfaces, enhance the cabin’s aesthetic.
The lineup will include Core and Premium models, plus a new Premium Plus model. The Premium Plus, succeeding the previous Circuit Edition, boasts a forged carbon roof, a distinctive bonnet bulge, and matte black 18-inch wheels. All models will come equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires in 235/40 size.
Pricing and Availability
Expect the 2025 GR Corolla to arrive at dealerships this winter. While pricing details for the 2025 model are forthcoming, the 2024 model starts at $37,195, including a $1,095 delivery fee.
Every purchase includes a one-year membership to the National Autosports Association (NASA), offering perks like event discounts and access to Performance Driving Days.
