FYI: Kia’s K4 sedan is expanding its lineup with a stylish new hatchback, set to replace the former Forte5 and likely make its U.S. debut in 2025.
## Kia K4 Sedan to Launch Hatchback Variant
Kia’s impressive K4 compact sedan, which made its grand debut at the 2024 New York Auto Show, is about to welcome a new family member: a hatchback version. Recently, video footage of a camouflaged prototype has surfaced, hinting at the upcoming release.
The K4 steps in as the successor to the Forte, with the K4 hatchback replacing the former Forte5 hatch. In European markets, the K4 hatchback will also take over from the Ceed, aligning Kia’s models worldwide with a unified naming strategy.
## Design and Display Features
Although the prototype remains heavily cloaked, Kia has already given enthusiasts a sneak peek. During the New York debut of the K4 sedan, a brief video presentation featured the design of what Kia’s design chief Karim Habib called a K4 five-door.
## U.S. Market Release Timeline
Prominent reports indicate that Kia intends to introduce both body styles to the U.S. market. The K4 sedan will hit the showrooms in the second half of 2024 as a 2025 model, while the hatchback is expected to follow in 2025, likely making its entrance as a 2026 model.
## Specifications and Features
The upcoming K4 hatchback will likely share many specifications with its sedan counterpart, offering added cargo space – a common trait among hatchbacks. The sedan version spans 185.4 inches in length, which is nearly three inches longer than the Forte. Typically, hatchbacks are slightly shorter than sedans, and the K4 hatchback might adhere to this trend.
Inside, drivers can anticipate a technology-laden cabin featuring a nearly 30-inch floating panel. This elegant touch integrates digital screens for the gauge cluster and the infotainment system, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
## Powertrain Options
Kia has confirmed two powertrain options for the K4 sedan, likely to be mirrored in the hatchback variant. These include:
– A 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 147 horsepower, paired with a continuous variable transmission (CVT).
– A 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine delivering 190 horsepower, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Both powertrains will come with front-wheel drive as standard.
## Future Electric Hatchback
In a nod to the future, Kia is also developing an electric hatchback similar in size to the K4 hatchback. Previewed by the EV4 concept last year, this electric variant is anticipated to retain its conceptual name, EV4, when it enters production. Prototypes of the EV4 are already being tested.
In summary, Kia continues to innovate and expand its lineup with the introduction of the K4 hatchback. This addition promises to bring enhanced versatility and cutting-edge technology to the compact car segment, further strengthening Kia’s presence in both the U.S. and international markets.
