FYI: The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series brings ultraluxury to the SL convertible, available in striking Red and White Ambience versions.
Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series to Debut at Monterey Car Week
Mercedes-Benz is upping the luxury game for its iconic SL convertible. Unveiled at this year’s Monterey Car Week, the German automaker introduces the 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series. This newly minted ultraluxury vehicle promises to offer an unparalleled blend of power and opulence.
Two Striking Variants: Red Ambience and White Ambience
Available in two eye-catching versions, the SL 680 Monogram Series allows buyers to choose between the Red Ambience and White Ambience editions. The Red Ambience sports a two-tone Obsidian Black Metallic over Manufaktur Garnet Red Metallic finish, while the White Ambience flaunts the same black over Manufaktur Moonlight White Magno (matte) paint. Both versions feature black hoods, with the red gaining added depth through a meticulously applied clear coat.
From 2+2 to an Exclusive Two-Seater
Unlike the traditional 2+2 layout found in the standard Mercedes-Benz AMG SL, the Maybach edition transforms into a sleek two-seater. The rear seats have been replaced by a refined, leather-lined storage compartment, perfect for luxurious weekend getaways. Aerodynamic leather double scoops behind the seats add an extra touch of sophistication.
Enhanced Exterior Aesthetics
The Maybach iteration sets itself apart with an abundance of chrome detailing on the windshield surround, rocker panels, pinstripe grille, and hood centerline. The grille even features illumination for added flair. Other notable exterior enhancements include rose gold accents on the headlights and exclusive 21-inch wheels available in both five-hole Monoblock and multi-spoke designs. A choice of custom hood patterns, including a Louis Vuitton-inspired Maybach logo, adds to the personalization options.
Luxurious Interior with Advanced Comforts
Inside, the Monogram Series features Manufaktur Crystal White Exclusive nappa leather upholstery throughout, extending to the door panels and center console. Matte chrome trim provides understated elegance, while Maybach logos adorn the door tops. Exclusive geometric patterns inspired by the front air intake design feature prominently on the seats.
A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 11.9-inch center touchscreen offer Maybach-specific animations and themes, ensuring that every interaction inside the cabin feels unique. Complementary features include a two-tone leather steering wheel, stainless-steel pedals, and door sills.
Engineered for Serenity and Performance
Powered by the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine from the AMG SL 63, the SL 680 Monogram Series generates 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Unlike its AMG counterpart, this Maybach edition includes a quieter exhaust system and enhanced sound insulation. Pirelli P Zeros with acoustic foam further reduce road noise, contributing to a more serene driving experience.
For added comfort, the suspension has been tuned with softer front and rear spring rates, and the damping system has been adjusted. A center-biased all-wheel-drive system, combined with revised throttle mapping, ensures that the vehicle offers both a smooth ride and dynamic cornering capabilities.
A Connoisseur’s Choice
The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series is expected to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just about 4.0 seconds, with a top speed of 161 mph.
Conclusion
Slated for release in the second half of 2025, the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series promises to redefine ultraluxury in the convertible segment. Keep an eye out as more details, including pricing and possible additional color options, are expected closer to the launch date.
