Porsche enthusiasts, brace yourselves for a thrilling update. Our spies have spotted a prototype of what appears to be a new addition to Porsche’s revamped 911 range. This latest development hints at a potential addition to the Turbo S lineup—a Touring model.
Reimagined 911 Turbo S: A Hybrid Future Unfolds
Porsche unveiled the first glimpse of its updated 911 models back in May, marking the iconic sports car’s foray into hybrid technology. Currently, hybrid tech is only incorporated in the various GTS models. The updated 911s, including the Carrera, Carrera GTS, Carrera 4 GTS, and Targa 4 GTS, are set to hit the market later this year as 2025 models.
Expanding the Lineup: A New Model on the Horizon?
While many of the redesigned 911s are already in testing phases and scheduled for release over the coming year, one particular model demands attention: the updated Turbo S. This version will reportedly also embrace hybrid technology.
Observations from the latest prototype tests suggest that this might be more than just an upgrade. There are several clues indicating a new model, potentially a Turbo S Touring. The most conspicuous hint is the absence of a fixed rear wing, accompanied by covers placed over the rear fender intakes.
A Nod to the 911 Sport Classic?
There’s speculation that the new model may take cues from the limited-edition 911 Sport Classic, which was introduced in 2023. The Sport Classic also forwent the fixed rear wing and side intakes, opting instead for a ducktail spoiler and a recess in the roof. This Touring naming pattern aligns with the GT3 Touring, another model known for omitting the rear wing.
The Sport Classic distinguished itself further with a 7-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive—features thus far unavailable in the Turbo S. However, if rumors hold true, the forthcoming Turbo S Touring might follow suit with rear-wheel drive but remain unlikely to feature a manual gearbox.
Hybrid Powertrain and Technical Specifications
Despite resembling earlier Turbo S prototypes, the yellow stickers on this newest iteration suggest it’s equipped with a hybrid powertrain. Porsche’s hybrid system for the 911 involves integrating an electric motor with the 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission seen in the 992-generation 911. This electric motor aids the engine, recovers energy during braking, and enhances the turbocharging system with an electric compressor to boost low RPM performance and reduce turbo lag.
The current Turbo S boasts an impressive 640 hp from its twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-6 engine. In contrast, the Sport Classic offered 572 hp to adjust for the traction loss from its rear-wheel drive setup. Expectations are high that the new hybrid powertrain will deliver even more power.
Expected Launch and Market Entry
Porsche has confirmed that the current Turbo and Turbo S models will remain unchanged for the 2025 lineup. Consequently, the debut of the updated versions, including this anticipated Turbo S Touring model, is projected for the 2026 model year, likely to be unveiled next year.
