Audi has released an exciting new addition to its European electric vehicle lineup: the base trim Q4 E-Tron 40, expanding its smallest MEB platform offering. Sharing design roots with stalwarts like the Volkswagen ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq, this variant introduces a 63-kilowatt-hour battery pack, of which 59 kWh is usable, promising impressive efficiency.
Extended Range and Performance
Available in two body styles, the Q4 E-Tron 40 boasts a WLTP-rated range of up to 262 miles (423 kilometers) for the sleek Sportback edition, while the classic SUV version achieves 256 miles (412 kilometers) on a full charge. Positioned just below the Q4 E-Tron 45, which carries an 82 kWh battery for a longer ride, this model offers a compelling balance of performance and accessibility.
The Q4 E-Tron 40’s single rear-mounted electric motor delivers a robust power output of 201 horsepower (150 kW). With an acceleration from zero to 62 miles per hour in 8.1 seconds and a top speed capped at 99 mph (160 kph), this vehicle promises a spirited drive. Towing capacities stand practical at 2,205 pounds (1,000 kilograms) on a 12% incline and increase to 2,645 lbs (1,200 kg) at an 8% incline.
Charging and Technology Enhancements
A notable feature of the Q4 E-Tron 40 is its ability to harness a maximum charging power of 165 kW, significantly shortening charging times. Audi claims a quick charge from 10% to 80% can be achieved in just 24 minutes, while a brisk 10-minute charge can provide about 96 miles (155 km) of range.
Addressing earlier user feedback, Audi has improved battery management by introducing a manual preconditioning feature. This can be activated via the car’s central infotainment system, providing users insight into added charging power. Additionally, it complements the automatic conditioning activated by the vehicle’s route planner.
Luxury Features and Connectivity
Standard features for the Q4 E-Tron 40 include the advanced MMI navigation plus system paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, ensuring a user-friendly interface. Other luxurious touches include an electrically operated trunk lid, heated front seats, and a one-year data plan. The onboard internet connectivity supports an array of apps and music streaming without reliance on smartphones. Furthermore, Audi has integrated ChatGPT within the infotainment system to enhance the interactive experience for both drivers and passengers.
While European customers can secure their orders for the Q4 E-Tron 40 immediately, its availability in the U.S. market is yet to be confirmed.
Conclusion
Audi’s introduction of the Q4 E-Tron 40 reflects the brand’s commitment to offering a dynamic and technologically savvy electric vehicle at a competitive price. With its blend of range, functionality, and cutting-edge features, it is sure to capture the interest of environmentally conscious drivers in Europe.
