FYI: Aston Martin’s new 2025 DBX707 proves that an ultraluxury SUV can have the agility of a smaller sport sedan, with improved chassis tuning, enhanced power, and refreshed interior features.
Two-and-a-half tons shouldn’t move like this. But the 2025 Aston Martin DBX707 effortlessly navigates the tight and twisty roads of Napa Valley, demonstrating a nimbleness usually reserved for smaller sport sedans.
Aston Martin DBX707: Enhanced Chassis Dynamics
With a curb weight of 4,940 pounds, the DBX707 is heavy but impressively agile. Compared to the BMW X5 M, it sheds 500 pounds thanks to a unique bonded-aluminum architecture exclusive to the DBX, resulting in a longer wheelbase and a spacious interior. The lightweight construction features a double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link independent rear suspension, all crafted from aluminum.
For rigorous control over its mass, the DBX707 employs a combination of advanced technologies:
- Three-Chamber Air Suspension: Allows for adjustments in ride height and provides adaptability across driving conditions.
- Adaptive Dampers: Individually tuned for rebound and compression.
- Active Anti-Roll Bars: Powered by a 48-volt system, these bars produce up to 1,032 lb-ft of torque to counteract body lean.
For 2025, Aston Martin introduces a new suspension control module, capable of reacting more swiftly to changing driving conditions by evaluating steering angle, throttle input, brake position, and body motions like pitch, lateral acceleration, and roll. This provides sharper cornering and smoother cruising, making the DBX707 an agile performer on winding roads.
The Driving Experience
Navigating the winding roads of Napa Valley, the DBX707 demonstrates precise turn-in, controlled rotation, and just enough lean to provide driver feedback. Its 14.4:1 steering ratio ensures stability and quick responsiveness, which is critical on tighter hairpin turns. According to chief engineer Andy Tokley, the active anti-roll bars simulate a rear-wheel steering effect, virtually shortening the wheelbase during cornering.
To aid its agility, the DBX707 is fitted with substantial carbon-ceramic brakes—16.5-inch rotors with 6-piston calipers at the front, and 15.0-inch rotors with single-piston calipers at the rear. These brakes manage a full day of aggressive driving with minimal fade.
Powerhouse Performance
Under the hood, the DBX707 houses a Mercedes-AMG-sourced twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, amped up to deliver 697 horsepower. This engine’s intense power allows a 0-60 mph sprint in just 3.1 seconds, with a top speed of 193 mph. The deep exhaust rumble, intensified in Sport and Sport+ modes, ensures an exhilarating auditory experience.
This powerful engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission featuring a wet clutch, and a fully variable all-wheel-drive system. Power distribution varies from 70% rear in standard GT mode to 90-95% in Sport and Sport+ modes, providing a rear-wheel drive feeling with added stability from the front wheels when necessary.
Driving Modes and Customization
The DBX707 offers multiple driving modes: GT, Sport, Sport+, Individual, Terrain, and Wet. Sport mode, optimal for track performance, provides quicker throttle response and faster transmission shifts, although Sport+ loosens stability control for controlled slides. Individual mode allows custom settings, achieving an ideal balance between performance and comfort.
Ultraluxury Interior
The 2025 DBX707 boasts a sumptuous interior with various customization options. Our test model features a Supernova Red exterior and Spicy Red semi-aniline leather interior, though other color choices include orange, blues, greens, and more.
Significant updates in the cabin include:
- New 12.3-inch Digital Instrument Cluster and 10.3-inch Touchscreen: The infotainment system, developed in-house, replaces the older Mercedes-based system.
- Streamlined Center Console: Featuring a new gear lever and refined control interface.
- Enhanced Audio System: A 23-speaker, 1,600-watt Bowers & Wilkins system delivers premium sound.
Despite its exuberant personality, the DBX707 offers practicality with a towing capacity of 5,940 pounds and optional hitch receiver.
Conclusion
With a starting price of $253,000 and reaching $342,000 with options, the 2025 Aston Martin DBX707 is an ultraluxury SUV that combines aggressive performance with refined luxury. It’s an SUV that feels as lively as a smaller sport sedan, making it a truly compelling choice for performance enthusiasts who refuse to compromise on space or style.
