FYI: Bentley’s latest innovation, an electric SUV, is already creating a buzz thanks to a recent appearance on the roads, disguised as a Porsche Cayenne.
Bentley has been remarkably tight-lipped about its upcoming line of SUVs. However, recent spy shots are stirring interest as an unidentified Bentley electric SUV, under the guise of a Porsche Cayenne, was spotted this week. This development marks Bentley’s entrance into the electric vehicle market with a model that stands out for its distinctiveness.
### The First Electric Bentley SUV
The luxury automobile giant plans to launch this urban electric SUV by 2026, underlining a significant shift in their lineup through the Beyond100+ plan. This strategy showcases Bentley’s commitment to sustainability, with design, development, and production taking place at their UK headquarters in Crewe. The new electric SUV will be smaller than Bentley’s Bentayga, aiming to establish a new segment within the brand.
### Cloaked in Mystery
So, why was Bentley’s electric SUV masquerading as a Cayenne? Although Porsche is also developing an electric version of the Cayenne, this vehicle isn’t one of theirs. The prototype, equipped with British number plates—a telltale sign of Bentley’s involvement—was checked by CarScoops and is registered to Bentley as of July 2024. The zero-emissions label and lack of exhaust pipes cement its identity as a purely electric vehicle.
Both the Bentayga and the Cayenne share similar platforms, and Bentley’s electric SUV will follow suit, sharing architectural elements with the Cayenne EV. The move borrows from Porsche’s electric Macan, known for its agile maneuverability.
### Design and Powertrain Speculations
Bentley seems to have initiated a tangent from tradition with this smaller model. The SUV, concealed under the Cayenne’s guise, features front elements similar to Porsche, such as boxy headlights and a robust front bumper—likely part of the camouflage. At the rear, cube-like lights stretch across the door, reminiscent of the Hyundai Ioniq 9’s parametric pixel lights, minus the exhausts. A subtle wing in the rear window further suggests aerodynamic refinement.
While Bentley has been reticent on specifics, there’s anticipation for a dual-motor layout complemented by a significant battery capable of delivering substantial range. Although a definitive look will remain hidden until Bentley’s official reveal late next year, enthusiasts await its unveiling with bated breath. Market availability could extend into late 2027 or 2028.
