FYI: The Bingo Tokyo Bay Auction Brought Numerous Surprises and Rare Cars
When the auction hammer drops, there’s only one winner and no second chances. The recent Bingo (BH Auction) Live Auto Auction at City Circuit Tokyo Bay, situated in Koto Ward, Tokyo, was a spectacle filled with surprises and extraordinary vehicles.
Venue and Atmosphere
The event took place at City Circuit Tokyo Bay, a versatile karting and event center with ample room, a large track, and a spacious hall. The Tokyo skyline provided a picturesque backdrop as attendees enjoyed free pizza under the sun while eyeing a stunning array of automotive treasures.
Diverse Catalogue
Adjacent to Daikoku PA, a renowned car-hunting paradise, the City Circuit set the stage for an impressive auction. The event showcased a wide range of cars—from classic Mini Coopers to a pristine Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI RS. Early-bird attendees could inspect the vehicles hours before the auction began, although the heat limited the number of early onlookers.
Low Mileage Wonders
As expected from an auction of this caliber, many cars boasted remarkably low mileage. A mint-condition Evo VI RS had just 3,000 km on the clock, while a 2004 Ferrari Challenge Stradale had an eye-poppingly low mileage of 379 km, making its minimal use almost criminal.
Other noteworthy cars included two Nissan GT-Rs (BNR32 Skyline and R35) with around 2,000 km each, and a Porsche 356 A Speedster with just 1,821 km. The hope for these future owners? That these pristine machines will see some action on the road rather than languishing in garages.
The Hoshino Impul Silvia Mystery
The auction featured unique entries, but none captured more attention than the Hoshino Impul Silvia raced in the Japanese Super Sports Sedan (JSS). Despite being a creation of Nismo works driver and Impul founder Hoshino Kazuyoshi, the vehicle received no bids and was quickly removed from the auction floor, surprising many enthusiasts.
Highlight: Ferrari Testarossa with Koenig Speciale Modification
One of the auction’s standout moments was the sale of a 1987 Ferrari Testarossa modified by Koenig Speciale. Although the iconic side strakes were replaced, the car’s aggressive stance and twin turbos made up for it. The engine, overhauled by Nakamura Engineering, proved the car was a mechanical powerhouse. The Testarossa fetched a staggering 46,090,000 yen (about $315,000 USD), a significant uptick from previous sales.
Conclusion
The Bingo Tokyo Bay Auction was an exhilarating event marked by rare and low-mileage vehicles, with surprises that kept attendees on their toes. For avid car enthusiasts and collectors, it was an unforgettable experience showcasing the allure and excitement of high-stakes auctions.
