FYI: BMW i4 gets an upgrade for 2025, featuring increased range for certain configurations and updated pricing.
BMW i4 Receives Refresh for 2025: Increased Range and Updated Pricing
The 2025 model year sees BMW’s best-selling all-electric car, the BMW i4, receiving a slight refresh. Although there are no significant changes to the battery and powertrain, modifications bring extended ranges to specific versions.
BMW i4: The Flagship EV Model
In the second quarter of 2024, BMW reported selling 7,066 i4 units in the U.S., representing half of the 14,081 electric vehicles sold. This performance means the i4 outsells other BMW EV models, including the i5, i7, and iX. Production for the 2025 BMW i4 started this month.
Versions of the BMW i4
BMW currently offers four different versions of the i4 for the U.S. market:
- i4 eDrive35 (entry-level, rear-wheel-drive)
- i4 eDrive40 (regular rear-wheel-drive)
- i4 xDrive40 (all-wheel-drive)
- i4 M50 xDrive (performance-oriented, all-wheel-drive)
For the 2025 model year, the i4 eDrive40, i4 xDrive40, and i4 M50 xDrive are confirmatively available for order, with the i4 eDrive35’s availability yet to be announced.
Enhanced Range: Mixed Results Across Variants
For 2025, the i4 presents an improved maximum driving range compared to the 2024 model. Notable updates include:
- i4 eDrive40: With standard 18-inch wheels, it now boasts an EPA range of up to 318 miles, an increase of 17 miles from the previous model. The range with optional 19-inch wheels grows by 12 miles, to 295 miles.
- i4 xDrive40: Contrarily, the all-wheel drive version experiences a decrease. The estimated range drops to 287 miles, down 20 miles from its predecessor. With 19-inch wheels, the range decreases by 11 miles to 268 miles.
- i4 M50 xDrive: This top-tier variant sees a marginal range reduction, now offering 267 miles, two miles less than before. Models with 20-inch wheels and performance tires remain unchanged at 227 miles.
Performance Tweaks and Variety
Other small changes for the 2025 model involve a slight deceleration in the i4 eDrive40, which now accomplishes 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds, compared to 5.4 seconds previously.
