Although Tesla has not confirmed this, the renowned Tesla hacker @greentheonly noted extensive data collection activities in the area, reinforcing the likelihood of such an event.
Tesla’s Test Fleet Activities
According to a Reddit post on r/TeslaMotors by member u/dent3dwheel, a fleet of Tesla test vehicles has been seen around Warner Bros. Studios over the past week. Another member, u/boopitysmopp, working in the area, has observed these activities regularly. These sightings add weight to the speculation of an impending major announcement from Tesla.
Design Insights
The sighted prototype shares a resemblance to an earlier Robotaxi concept image shown in Walter Isaacson’s biography of Elon Musk. Based on the observations, the vehicle is a compact two-seater with ample cargo space in the rear. It features two doors, large rear wheels, and taillights similar to those on the Cybertruck.
Production Plans
Tesla has disclosed in its Q2 2024 Update Letter that the Robotaxi will be produced using the "unboxed" manufacturing process at Giga Texas. The company is also preparing for an unveiling event, with opportunities for TSLA retail shareholders to attend.
