China Experiences Increased Wait Times for Tesla Model 3 Deliveries

Tesla Model 3 Delivery Times Extended for China

Tesla China has recently modified the estimated delivery period for its Shanghai-made Model 3 sedan. According to Tesla’s Chinese order page, new orders for the revamped Model 3 now carry an estimated delivery window of 2-4 weeks.

Previously, the Model 3 was touted with an estimated delivery span of 1-4 weeks. This timeframe applied to all variants available: the base Rear Wheel Drive (RWD), the Long Range Dual Motor All Wheel Drive (AWD), as well as the Model 3 Performance edition.

Interestingly, the estimated delivery time for the Model Y crossover remains unchanged. Currently, the Model Y is still given a 1-3 week delivery estimate, a timeframe that has stayed constant since early this month, the same period when the Model 3 was listed with a 1-4 week estimate.

Sources from Tesla China have not disclosed the exact reasons behind the updated delivery timelines for the Model 3. However, speculation suggests this adjustment could be linked to the company’s strategy to prioritize exports of the Model 3 in the upcoming weeks. Giga Shanghai, alongside Tesla’s Fremont Factory, are currently the only two facilities capable of producing the reengineered Model 3, serving a global array of orders.

There is a strong possibility that Tesla China may shift its focus towards exporting Model 3 units in the early part of Q3 2024. The reengineered Model 3’s features and competitive pricing have likely driven substantial demand across key markets, including China.

The Model 3 is currently Tesla’s most affordable offering. It is priced at RMB 231,900 ($31,900) for the base RWD version, RMB 271,900 ($37,400) for the Long Range Dual Motor AWD variant, and RMB 335,900 ($46,200) for the Performance model. The combination of safety, advanced technology, and outstanding features makes the Model 3 a significant value proposition in the electric vehicle market.
