Ford’s Global Influence Expands with Chinese Student Design Contest
Ford Motor Company, a renowned titan in the global automotive industry, recently showcased its dedication to innovation and education by launching a captivating design competition for young Chinese talents. Emblazoned with the iconic blue oval, Ford’s influence reaches across continents, with this latest initiative reimagining the beloved Mustang as the car of tomorrow.
Inspiring the Future: ‘Mustang: A Grand Tour of Re-imagination’
Set against the vibrant backdrop of China, Ford initiated the ‘Mustang: A Grand Tour of Re-imagination’ in December 2024. This competition extended its invitation to 25 creative students from 22 prestigious colleges and universities nationwide. By February, eight outstanding individuals earned the coveted opportunity to travel to Ford’s state-of-the-art design center in Shanghai, joining forces with seasoned engineers to conceptualize a futuristic interpretation of the iconic muscle car.
Overseeing the ambitious initiative was Max Wolff, Ford’s Design Director, who spoke fondly of the young talents’ enthusiasm and creativity: "We are honored to have attracted so many outstanding young design talents to this rare training opportunity."
Stunning Concepts Heralding the Next Era of the Mustang
The students’ imaginative prowess resulted in breathtaking designs that promise practical benefits while staying grounded in feasibility. Collaborating closely with Ford engineers, the students transformed their visionary ideas into realistic proposals. Among the eight finalists, three concepts stood out, each offering a unique spin on Mustang tradition.
- Liu Sizhuo of Tsinghua University introduced the Mustang Mach-S Concept, a surprising take on the traditional Mustang, blending the shooting brake style with practicality.
- Xie Yian unveiled the Mustang Super Utility Concept, daringly combining the ruggedness of an all-electric pickup truck with the elegance of a coupe.
- Lai Yushun crafted the Mustang Hyper Tandem Concept, whose exterior reflects motorsport influences while its interior draws inspiration from high-speed fighter jets.
