FYI: A super rare 1970 Ford Falcon XY was recently discovered under a home in Brisbane, Australia, after being parked there for half a century.
### Rare 1970 Ford Falcon XY Unearthed After 50 Years
In an incredible discovery, a 1970 Ford Falcon XY, considered a ‘one-of-one’, was found under a house in Brisbane, Australia, where it had been parked for 50 years. Owned by Clive Anderson, the vintage muscle car was accessed via a vine-covered staircase and remained hidden from view for decades.
Anderson originally purchased the Ford Falcon for AUS$3,800 in 1972 and used it as his main vehicle. However, after receiving a work vehicle, Anderson decided to store the Falcon underneath his home. Over time, the car ceased to function, solidifying its place as a forgotten treasure.
### Forgotten Classic Cars: A Common Phenomenon
Surprisingly, Anderson’s story isn’t unique. Many classic car enthusiasts end up parking their prized vehicles and forgetting about them. For instance, a man recently uncovered his 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette after nearly 40 years, and the late Harry Potter star Richard Harris left his Rolls-Royce Phantom in a New York garage racking up steep parking fees.
### Discovering the Hidden Gem
With a desire to resurrect his long-lost Falcon, Anderson hired experts last November to bring the car out from its subterranean storage. To his delight, it was discovered that the car was a rare find.
The Ford Falcon XY turned out to be a ‘special build’ initially owned by The Ford Motor Company and still had its original logbook. This fact confirmed the vehicle’s uniqueness and historical significance. “It’s one-of-one,” stated Rian Gaffey, an auctioneer from Gray’s Australia.
### A Collector’s Dream: Low Mileage and Great Condition
Even more astonishing was the car’s condition; despite its prolonged disuse, it had only clocked 96,500 km (60,000 miles). The well-preserved state, combined with its low mileage and complete historical documentation, made it a particularly valuable find.
### Auction Expectations
Given the car’s rare status and excellent condition, auctioneer Rian Gaffey expressed confidence in the vehicle’s potential at auction. “It’s going to go very, very well,” he told 7 News. “They’re very, very rare. They’re getting rarer and rarer.”
### Conclusion
The 1970 Ford Falcon XY discovered in Brisbane stands as a testament to the hidden gems that can be found tucked away in unexpected places. Collectors and enthusiasts alike will watch eagerly as this rare find goes to auction, anticipating the value such a unique piece of automotive history might command.
