FYI: Tesla’s production of the Cybertruck appears to be ramping up as Q3 2024 comes to a close, with a significant number of vehicles spotted at Giga Texas.
Tesla Giga Texas Brimming with Cybertrucks as Q3 2024 Nears its End
Recent footage and images from Giga Texas indicate that Tesla is significantly ramping up its production of the Cybertruck as the third quarter of 2024 concludes. Notably, several Cybertrucks in the Giga Texas facility were seen being shipped using covered cargo trailers.
The latest video footage of Giga Texas was shared by Joe Tegtmeyer, a long-time Tesla enthusiast and Cybertruck owner who has been documenting the development of the area since its early days. According to Tegtmeyer, during a recent drone flyover, hundreds of Cybertrucks could be seen filling the outbound lot on the west side of Giga Texas.
Notably, additional groups of Cybertrucks were also observed at the factory’s exit, suggesting that Tesla is producing the vehicles at a steady rate. This could be corroborated by the substantial number of megacasts for the Cybertruck that were stored outside the Giga Texas facility. Drone operator estimates suggest that Tesla’s production of the Cybertruck is approaching approximately 2,000 units per week.
Evidence of Robust Production
In a tweet, Joe Tegtmeyer highlighted, "Lots and lots of @cybertruck at the Giga Texas outbound lot this morning, with a large group being moved into covered carriers. Production seems very robust too as I saw many more exiting the factory, along with a big group of Model Ys."
Interestingly, some of the Cybertrucks at Giga Texas were being transported in covered cargo trailers, a deviation from the usual practice of shipping multiple vehicles using conventional car carriers. Tesla has not yet explained why some Cybertrucks are being transported this way from Giga Texas.
Boost for Orders
The increasing presence of Cybertrucks at Giga Texas is a promising sign for Tesla, especially as orders are expected to rise once the premium Foundation Series concludes. Currently, the Cybertruck requires a $20,000 premium for the Foundation Series, and its removal will likely make the vehicle more attractive to a broader range of buyers.
Tesla continues to push the boundaries in developing the Cybertruck. In late July, Senior Manufacturing Engineer Cole Otto mentioned on LinkedIn that Tesla had built its first-ever dry cathode Cybertruck. The vehicle employs 4680 cells with electrodes produced using Tesla’s innovative dry process. Present generation Cybertrucks feature 4680 cells that combine a lower-cost negative electrode with a more expensive positive electrode sourced from suppliers like LG.
