FYI: Exploring the Stature and Presence of the Luxurious Rolls-Royce Phantom and Range Rover
The streets of Los Angeles are no stranger to luxury, often graced by the likes of Rolls-Royce Cullinans, Dawns, and Ghosts. Though Phantoms are relatively rare, their majestic presence is undeniable. The current Phantom VIII generation leaves a lasting impression, largely due to its formidable size.
A Visual Comparison
Recently, I had the opportunity to witness firsthand just how immense the new Phantom truly is, thanks to a helpful visual provided by a nearby Range Rover. We compared a long-wheelbase Range Rover with a short wheelbase Phantom. Even with the Range Rover’s suspension lowered and set to Access Mode, the dimensions of the Phantom remained striking.
Key Dimensions:
- Range Rover LWB: 207.0 inches long
- Rolls-Royce Phantom SWB: 227.2 inches long
- Rolls-Royce Phantom EWB: 235.8 inches long
- Cadillac Escalade: Slightly shorter than Phantom SWB, with ESV being comparable
Extraordinary Length and Height
The Phantom SWB is an impressive 15.3 inches longer than the Range Rover LWB. Opting for the extended wheelbase Phantom adds another 8.6 inches, resulting in a total length of 235.8 inches. This new car is not just about its enormous length. It also stands tall, measuring 64.8 inches for the SWB and slightly more for the EWB, making it a towering presence among luxury sedans.
For comparison, the Cadillac Escalade stands at 76.7 inches tall, and the Range Rover at 73.6 inches. Despite these heights, seeing the new generation of Range Rover next to the Phantom, the Rolls-Royce felt inexplicably on par in terms of height, though significantly longer.
Electrifying Luxury: The Rolls-Royce Spectre
The Rolls-Royce Spectre, another marvel, fascinatingly matches the Phantom in terms of imposing size. The all-electric coupe stretches 214.7 inches and stands at 61.4 inches. Its underfloor battery pack adds height, and its coach doors enhance ease of entry and exits, affirming Rolls-Royce’s commitment to luxury.
Signature Presence
The Phantom’s imposing stature allows it to outshine competitors like the Mercedes S-Class and other large luxury sedans. The combination of length, height, and the attention to detail in its design (like the extra chrome strip on the EWB), make it a definitive leader in the segment.
Conclusion
The Rolls-Royce Phantom continues to dominate the streets with its sheer presence and unmatched luxury. Whether compared to a luxury SUV like the Range Rover or a groundbreaking electric vehicle like the Spectre, the Phantom stands tall and long, truly befitting its name.
