FYI: The Dodge Stealth is set to make a comeback, replacing the Dodge Durango in Stellantis’ lineup by 2027.
Dodge Stealth Set to Replace Durango in 2027
The winds of change are blowing through Dodge’s lineup as the Dodge Stealth is poised to take the place of the venerable Dodge Durango. Automotive News Canada reported on Monday that Stellantis, Dodge’s parent company, has plans for a new Dodge Stealth SUV, with production to commence in early 2026. The current Durango will continue its production until mid-2027, providing a window for the transition.
Industry Insights
According to Sam Fiorani, Vice President of Global Forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions, there are no immediate plans to create another model derived from Jeep for Dodge. This revelation comes as somewhat surprising since previous agreements hinted at a redesign for the Durango.
Contradicting the 2023 UAW Agreement with Stellantis, which suggested a revamped Durango with the codename D6U would start production in 2026, the newer information alludes to a shift in strategy. The next-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee, codenamed J6U, is still reportedly set to begin production at the Detroit Assembly Complex in 2027.
New Production Ventures
Fiorani shared that the Stealth, a slightly smaller SUV, will roll out from Stellantis’ Windsor plant in Ontario, Canada. Set on the STLA Large platform, it will cater to modern demands with support for both electric and gas-powered powertrains. This platform is also shared with the electric Dodge Charger, currently in production at the same Canadian plant.
Interestingly, a larger variant initially planned to carry the Durango name has been scrapped, further signaling the brand’s new direction.

The End of an Era
The current Dodge Durango, a derivative of the previous-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2), is manufactured at the Detroit Assembly Complex. Production of the Durango is expected to cease operations by July 2027. Known for being the only Dodge offering a V-8 engine, the Durango maintains its legacy as the last model featuring the iconic Hellcat variant. The Durango Hellcat has seen intermittent revivals in 2023 and 2024, continuing its legacy into 2025.
Looking Forward
The transition from Durango to Stealth marks a significant pivot in Dodge’s portfolio. This shift underscores the company’s commitment to evolving with modern automotive trends while gradually phasing out older models. Enthusiasts and customers should monitor this space closely for more updates as they become available.
