Dodge has stepped into a new era, heralding a significant transformation in its iconic muscle car lineup. Departing from the traditional HEMI V8 engines, Dodge has unveiled the all-new Charger, which boasts an all-electric variant and a formidable 3.0-liter six-cylinder powertrain named the Hurricane.
A New Powerhouse: Hurricane Twin-Turbo Engine
The Hurricane twin-turbo engine, with its 3.0-liter configuration, promises muscle car-level performance while maintaining a smaller environmental footprint. This transition signifies a substantial shift from the powerful but bulkier HEMI V8 engines of the past.
Celebrating 50 Years of Direct Connection
In conjunction with celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Direct Connection performance brand, Dodge has unveiled new HurriCrate engines. These engines are designed to cater to both performance enthusiasts and custom car builders. The HurriCrate engines come in two tiers—Cat 1 and Cat 3—each packing immense power in a compact form.
- Cat 1: Featuring 420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque, the HurriCrate Cat 1 engine boasts a power density that surpasses the previous-generation Direct Connection HellCrate Redeye HEMI engine by 7%, delivering 140 horsepower per liter.
- Cat 3: Elevating performance even further, the HurriCrate Cat 3 engine churns out 550 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque. Its 183 horsepower per liter marks a 10% increase in power density compared to the venerated Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170.
