FYI: Tesla’s Cybertruck is set to receive key features like automatic parking and Full Self-Driving capability in upcoming updates.
Tesla’s Cybertruck on Verge of Major Software Upgrades
The Tesla Cybertruck, renowned for its futuristic design and whopping $100,000+ price tag, has been on the market for nearly a year. Despite its early success as one of the fastest-selling electric pickups in the U.S., Tesla’s flagship EV still lacks some of the advanced functionalities that customers have eagerly anticipated, such as Full Self-Driving (FSD).
Delayed Expectations, New Promises
Tesla enthusiasts have been waiting for enhancements like automatic parking assistance and FSD. Over the past year, there have been multiple missed deadlines, muddled by ambiguous timelines. However, Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s head of Autopilot Software, provided a fresh update that sheds light on the impending improvements.
Elluswamy confirmed that the Cybertruck is poised to receive automatic parking assistance this week. Simultaneously, the highly-anticipated FSD feature is scheduled for an over-the-air update next month. This news comes after numerous delays and unmet promises regarding the rollout of these features.
History of Broken Promises
The Tesla Cybertruck’s journey to getting full driver assistance has been marked by a series of unmet deadlines. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously indicated in May that Cybertruck would receive FSD by late June, suggesting rapid development progress. Despite this optimistic projection, the anticipated update did not materialize.
Realistic Timeline for FSD
This time, there’s cautious optimism among Tesla owners. The driving assistance features are set to arrive with FSD version 12.5, which has already begun rolling out to other Tesla models. This suggests it’s only a matter of time before the cutting-edge electric truck benefits from these advanced capabilities.
Incremental Software Improvements
In Tesla’s defense, the Cybertruck has received several software updates since initial deliveries commenced in November of last year. Noteworthy upgrades include the introduction of Off-Road Mode and the ability to lock the front differential on the tri-motor version, enhancing its off-road performance.
What FSD Promises
Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) suite offers a host of features, including:
- Traffic-aware cruise control
- Automatic steering on highways and city streets
- Automatic lane changes
- Automatic stopping at traffic lights and stop signs
Conclusion
While the wait for Full Self-Driving has been longer than anticipated, the Cybertruck is on the cusp of a significant technological leap. With Elluswamy’s recent confirmation, there is renewed hope that Tesla’s unique electric pickup will soon achieve the advanced functionality that has long been promised.
