FYI: Tesla’s reengineered Model 3 vehicles now boast shorter delivery times in China, aligning with their popular Model Y lineup.
Tesla Model 3: Reduced Delivery Time in China
Tesla’s latest advancements in China see the delivery time for the reengineered Model 3 significantly reduced. The expected delivery schedule for the Model 3 Rear Wheel Drive (RWD), Long Range Dual Motor All Wheel Drive (AWD), and Performance models has been updated to 1-3 weeks, as per Tesla China’s order platform. This change signals a reduction from the previous time frame of 2-4 weeks.
Updates Across the Board
In a recent report by CNEV Post, a change in Tesla’s delivery schedules was noted. Previously, the wait for a Model 3 was longer than that for the Model Y, a popular crossover also produced at Tesla’s Gigafactory Shanghai. However, both the Model Y and Model 3 series are available with an updated delivery window of 1-3 weeks for RWD, AWD, and Performance variants.
Tesla’s Adaptations
Produced exclusively in Shanghai, both the Model 3 and Model Y are central to Tesla China’s lineup, each available in three configurations. Throughout the year, Tesla has adjusted delivery expectations to better align production with demand. In late October, the Model 3’s delivery time was adjusted from 4-6 weeks down to 2-4 weeks, before the current 1-3 week estimate. This aligns with changes made in July that saw the Model Y’s delivery reduced from 1-6 weeks to 1-3 weeks.
Model Y’s Upcoming Iteration
While the classic Model Y continues to see high demand, there is anticipation for an updated version, often referred to as the "Juniper" upgrade. Should this new iteration be released next year, it’s likely that delivery times will extend, reflecting increased demand for this revamped model.
Pricing and Availability
The updated delivery times accompany Tesla’s competitive pricing strategy in China. The base Model 3 starts at RMB 231,900 ($32,000), with the Long Range AWD model priced at RMB 271,900 ($37,500), and the Performance variant at RMB 335,900 ($46,390). The Model Y lineup begins at RMB 249,900 ($34,500) for the RWD, RMB 290,900 ($40,180) for AWD, and RMB 354,900 ($49,000) for the Performance version.
Conclusion
Tesla’s strategic adjustments in production and delivery schedules are aimed at meeting the rising demand for their vehicles in China. By reducing waiting times and maintaining competitive pricing, Tesla continues to hold its strong position in the electric vehicle market.
