FYI: Tesla’s German Gigafactory achieved remarkable milestones despite numerous challenges throughout 2024.
Tesla wrapped up a dynamic year at its Gigafactory in Berlin-Brandenburg with a new video celebrating the successes and trials it faced. This year, the factory played a pivotal role in producing the Model Y crossover for the European market, under challenging circumstances.
Key Achievements in 2024
- Tesla’s Gigafactory Berlin was a powerhouse of productivity, achieving impressive numbers such as hitting the production of 500,000 drive units by August and building 400,000 Model Y vehicles by September.
Challenges Along the Way
-
The year began with an unexpected halt in operations due to armed conflicts in the Red Sea, temporarily interrupting production from January 29 until February 12.
-
In March, the factory encountered further disruption from an arson attack on its power substation. The Vulcan Group, an environmental activist organization, claimed responsibility in protest of Tesla’s environmental impact and efforts, labeling the corporation’s activities as "technofascism."
- The confrontations escalated in May when activists stormed the plant, resulting in injuries. Their efforts continued with the building of treehouses in nearby forests, protesting Tesla’s planned expansion despite the company’s promise to replant thrice the number of trees removed. Authorities only recently managed to vacate these protest groups from the forest.
Despite these hurdles, Tesla showcased an unwavering commitment to employee welfare and continuous operations, impressively maintaining its manufacturing goals.
