FYI: Tesla China Celebrates Export Milestone as Gigafactory Shanghai Ships Out 1 Millionth Vehicle
Tesla China has announced an impressive milestone in a recent celebratory update. According to a post from Tesla Vice President Grace Tao on Weibo, Gigafactory Shanghai has achieved a significant landmark by exporting its 1 millionth vehicle. This milestone is another testament to Giga Shanghai’s role as Tesla’s central hub for vehicle exports.
Four Years of Remarkable Growth
In her post on the Chinese social media platform, Tao highlighted the rapid growth and achievements of Gigafactory Shanghai. In just four years of operation, the factory has shipped Tesla vehicles to numerous global markets, including Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, and countries such as Australia and New Zealand.
“Today, the 1 millionth Tesla made in China was shipped from Shanghai Nangang Terminal. In just four years since the first batch of vehicles were exported, Tesla made in China has been exported to many countries and regions such as Europe, Asia Pacific, Australia, and New Zealand, and has been highly recognized by overseas markets,” said Tao.
Tesla Models Making Waves Globally
Tao acknowledged the strong support of Tesla’s international and local customer base. She expressed gratitude to all car owners for their loyalty, which has fueled the company to continually deliver high-quality products and push forward the transition to sustainable energy. The sentiment was echoed in a post by the official Tesla Asia account on Twitter, which thanked Tesla owners and supporters for this achievement.
A Journey from Mud Field to Manufacturing Behemoth
The journey of Gigafactory Shanghai has been nothing short of remarkable. Constructing the factory began in January 2019, a move met with skepticism from critics. However, by the end of the same year, the facility started producing China-made Model 3 vehicles with initial deliveries made to Tesla employees before the end of 2019.
Consumer deliveries began in January 2020, followed by the production of the Tesla Model Y, which started reaching customers just a year later. Gigafactory Shanghai officially commenced exporting vehicles in April 2021. According to CNEVPost, the first month of exports saw a significant 14,174 units shipped out. From January to August this year alone, Tesla China has exported 199,437 vehicles.
Sustained Commitment to Quality
Tesla’s Gigafactory Shanghai continues to play a pivotal role in the company’s global supply chain. With ongoing production and export activities, Tesla underscores its commitment to manufacturing excellence and sustainable transport solutions.
