FYI: Hyundai is set to introduce the highly anticipated electric SUV, the Ioniq 9, at the upcoming 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show.
The stage is set for another impressive debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Hyundai will unveil its cutting-edge, three-row electric SUV, the 2026 Ioniq 9, this week. With its official market launch anticipated for early 2025, the Ioniq 9 promises to be a noteworthy addition to the growing lineup of electric vehicles with third-row seating.
The Legacy of Concept to Reality
The Ioniq 9 closely follows the design ethos of the Hyundai Seven Concept first shown three years ago. The production version maintains the artistic flair of the concept, with signature design elements like the captivating pixel ring at its rear. This aesthetic continuity ensures that those trailing this SUV in traffic won’t just be gazing at another vehicle.
Performance and Range
At the heart of the Ioniq 9 lies a robust 110.3 kWh battery, which Hyundai estimates will provide a range of approximately 335 miles. Initially available with rear-wheel drive and 19-inch wheels, the range is expected to be just over 300 miles on different models, depending on options like all-wheel drive and larger wheels.
- Powerful Drive Options:
- Rear-wheel drive with a 215-horsepower motor.
- Standard all-wheel drive version adds a 93-horsepower motor on the front axle, totaling 303 horsepower.
- Performance all-wheel drive adds a 215-horsepower motor up front, achieving up to 422 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of just 4.9 seconds when equipped with 21-inch wheels.
- Towing capacity is rated at 5,000 pounds.
Advanced Charging and Connectivity
Incorporating an 800-volt architecture, the Ioniq 9 is designed for fast charging, achieving virtually an 80% battery charge in just 24 minutes on a 350 kW charger. It features bidirectional charging capabilities and will be equipped with a Tesla-style NACS port.
Internally Spacious and Technically Equipped
The Ioniq 9 shares its platform with the Kia EV9 but leans more towards a minivan-inspired design. The flat flooring extends back to provide ample space for passengers and cargo. Measuring 199.1 inches in length and equipped with a wheelbase of 123.2 inches, the SUV features 46.7 cubic feet of storage with the seating folded.
- Interior Features:
- A minimalist dashboard enriched with dual 12.0-inch digital screens.
- A sliding center console equipped with charging capabilities for devices.
- Options for fully reclining seats and six interior color schemes.
- Multiple drive modes, including specialized off-road settings.
For markets outside the US, a rear camera option replaces side mirrors, which further optimizes aerodynamics—the resulting SUV boasts a drag coefficient of 0.259, enhancing its efficiency.
Final Thoughts
As anticipation builds around the Ioniq 9’s pricing announcement, Hyundai gears up to unveil the Inisium at the show—a sneak peek into the future of Nexo’s fuel cell vehicles. For those eager to explore the latest in automotive innovation, the LA Auto Show opens its doors to the media on Thursday.
