During a planned showcase of a five-door modified EK Civic Ferio sedan by X-Point Import Co. in Chiba, Japan, car enthusiasts were treated to an unanticipated find—a pristine 1996 Honda Integra Type R. Such chance encounters illustrate a hidden camaraderie among Honda aficionados, akin to the magnetic pull of liquid metal particles in iconic films.
Discovering Hidden Gems in the Tuner World
Without a keen eye, even the most unique vehicles can sometimes go unnoticed, such as this standout DC2 Integra. Initially, it can appear to be an ordinary model, but upon closer inspection, its distinctiveness comes to light. As Masa worked on the Civic’s hood, the Integra’s owner, Mr. Kiyo, unveiled the story behind this remarkable car.
Exceed Japan’s Pioneer Demo Car
The Integra served as Exceed Japan’s foremost demo vehicle when the brand debuted in 2017. Since then, Exceed Japan has carved a niche by blending eco-inspired details with USDM (United States Domestic Market) aesthetics. Yasutaka Shimomukai, Exceed’s founder, infused West Coast Honda culture into Japan, fostering a blend of meticulous design and cultural flare.
Innovative Details and Components
The car’s standout features include a hybrid racing shifter coupled with an authentic Battlecraft shift knob, infusing an American twist into the vehicle’s setup. The engine bay delivers a show-stopper appearance, characterized by a sleek, streamlined layout and outfitted with a Rywire Motorsport Electronics harness.
A Story of Endurance and Style
Kiyo spoke of the Integra’s substantial journey, including two engine rebuilds handled by Rare Factory over his four-year ownership. This narrative is further enriched by the polished cam cover from California, echoing Exceed’s original engine artistry. Completing the American-inspired vibe, components from Downstar Inc., Skunk2, and Hybrid Racing are harmonized for performance and aesthetics.
