FYI: Karma Automotive has unveiled the Amaris, a stunning luxury coupe utilizing advanced materials and technology to redefine the electric vehicle segment.
Karma Automotive Introduces the Amaris: A Luxury Extended-Range Electric Coupe
California-based Karma Automotive, born from the remnants of Fisker’s initial bankruptcy, has revealed its latest creation: a luxury two-door sports coupe named the Amaris. A testament to innovative engineering, the Amaris is constructed on an all-aluminum spaceframe and dons a body crafted from a sophisticated blend of aluminum and carbon fiber.
Design and Performance: A Fusion of Elegance and Power
The Amaris sports car exudes sleek aesthetics influenced by its four-door sibling, the Revero, an evolution of the original Fisker Karma. Its dynamic design features distinctive "swan doors," which open upwards for elegant entry and exit. The vehicle rides on 22-inch forged aluminum "Constellation" wheels, designed to bolster its athletic look.
Aerodynamics play a crucial role, with the Amaris boasting a clamshell hood and a unique pass-through spoiler at the rear, which enhances downforce while minimizing drag.
Innovative Powertrain: Extended-Range Efficiency
Under its impressive exterior, the Amaris showcases an evolved powertrain. Although specific performance metrics are currently under wraps, it’s classified as an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV), featuring a BMW-sourced four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with an electric generator. This setup marks an upgrade from Karma’s current three-cylinder engine, aligning with industry trends like its usage in the RAM 1500 Ramcharger and the forthcoming Scout SUV.
In this EREV configuration, the gasoline engine’s primary role is to drive an electric generator, which then supplies power to the battery pack, subsequently powering the electric motors that propel the car.
Performance Metrics and Market Position
Karma Automotive promises exhilarating performance, with the Amaris capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and achieving a top speed of 165 mph. This acceleration is notably faster than the Gysera and Revero models, showcasing the Amaris as a formidable entrant in its segment.
Karma Automotive’s Strategic Roadmap
Looking ahead, Karma Automotive has outlined an ambitious product roadmap. Sales of the Amaris are scheduled to commence in Q4 2026, with subsequent releases including the Kaveya all-electric "super-coupe" in 2027 and the Ivara electric SUV in 2028. Preceding its launch, Karma will introduce the performance-oriented Invictus in 2024, followed by the revised Gysera EREV in late 2025.
Conclusion
Karma Automotive is positioning the Amaris as a pivotal offering in the luxury EV space, merging cutting-edge technology with elegant design. As the automotive landscape evolves, the Amaris signifies a strategic leap forward for the brand, promising both performance and sustainability.
