FYI: Lamborghini has unveiled its latest marvel, the Lamborghini Temerario, at the 2024 Monterey Car Week in California. This groundbreaking V-8 plug-in hybrid replaces the bestselling Huracan and marks Lamborghini’s shift towards a fully electric lineup. The launch of the Temerario alongside the Revuelto and Urus SE SUVs signifies an ambitious new chapter for the Italian automaker.
## Lamborghini Temerario: A Reckless New Entrant
Lamborghini’s choice of name, Temerario, which means “reckless” in Spanish, aptly reflects the car’s daring and wild nature. Sharing a thematic connection with its predecessor, Revuelto (meaning “wild” or “unruly”), the Temerario promises to deliver an extraordinary driving experience.
## Design and Dimensions: Bold and Bigger
The Temerario features a newly designed aluminum chassis, boasting improved torsional rigidity and increased interior space compared to the Huracan. The vehicle measures over 185 inches, approximately 10 inches longer than its predecessor, and weighs a dry weight of 3,725 pounds, a marked increase from the Huracan’s 3,330 pounds. This increase in size is attributed to the additional hybrid technology embedded within the car.
## Powertrain: A Hybrid Beast
At the heart of the Temerario lies a sophisticated plug-in hybrid powertrain. The vehicle combines a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine with three electric motors. The V-8 engine alone delivers 791 horsepower, thanks to its flat-plane crankshaft and turbochargers that supply up to 36 psi of air pressure, allowing it to rev up to 10,000 rpm.
### Electric Motor Trio
The hybrid setup includes two electric motors on the front axle and a third motor positioned between the V-8 engine and the transmission. The third motor enhances the power delivery, emulating the seamless performance of a racing engine, and also functions as a starter motor and an energy recoverer. Combined, the system generates an astounding 907 horsepower, propelling the Temerario from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 2.7 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 210 mph. Additionally, a 3.8 kWh lithium-ion battery enables electric-only driving for short spans.
## Aerodynamics and Aesthetics
Lamborghini has focused intensely on optimizing the Temerario’s aerodynamics. The vehicle’s design incorporates various channels that streamline airflow, achieving unprecedented efficiency. The exterior styling, distinct from the Revuelto, includes slit-shaped headlights, large hexagonal daytime running lights, ample air intakes, and a prominent engine cover showcasing the V-8 engine. The high-mount single exhaust and exposed rear wheels evoke classic Lamborghini aesthetics.
## Interior: Advanced and User-centric
Inside, the Temerario mirrors the Revuelto with advanced digital interfaces. A floating digital gauge cluster and a thin passenger-side display complement the centrally-mounted vertical infotainment screen. The steering wheel, an all-new design for Lamborghini, offers optional carbon accents and features a red rotating dial for selecting drive modes.
### Powertrain and Drive Modes
Temerario drivers can choose from three powertrain modes – Recharge, Hybrid, and Performance – and five drive modes – Citta (city), Strada (street), Sport, Corsa (race), and Corsa Plus (advanced race). The most powerful configuration combines Performance and Corsa, maintaining engine activity for continuous battery charging and optimizing the chassis systems for peak performance.
## Final Thoughts
Pricing details for the Lamborghini Temerario remain undisclosed. However, with its advanced hybrid technology, breathtaking design, and exceptional performance, the Temerario represents Lamborghini’s bold step into the future of electric supercars.
