FYI: Lucid Motors CEO Peter Rawlinson predicts that Tesla’s Model S will reach the Lucid Air Pure’s current efficiency benchmarks by 2032.
Lucid Air’s Leading Efficiency Puts It Miles Ahead of Competitors
Lucid Motors CEO Peter Rawlinson has confidently asserted that the Lucid Air Pure’s efficiency is significantly ahead of its rivals in the electric vehicle (EV) market. According to Rawlinson, it could take Tesla until 2032 to match the current efficiency of the Lucid Air Pure if it maintains its existing rate of progress.
Lucid Air Pure: Setting New Standards in Efficiency
In a recent LinkedIn post, Rawlinson highlighted that the Lucid Air Pure has achieved an impressive 5.0 miles per kWh and 146 MPGe, positioning it as the most efficient production car today. The comparison image he shared vividly underscored the superiority of the Lucid Air against its rivals.
“Efficiency is of critical importance in making a better, lighter, more spacious, longer-range vehicle, and directly impacts cost to manufacture. Therefore, efficiency is arguably the single most valid litmus of a company’s core EV technological capability,” Rawlinson commented.
Tesla’s Position and Potential
Comparing efficiency between the RWD Lucid Air Pure and Tesla’s AWD Model S inherently favors Lucid. However, Tesla does offer a high-efficiency RWD vehicle—the Model 3. According to data from fueleconomy.gov, the Tesla Model 3 RWD Standard Range achieves a combined efficiency of 132 MPGe, with 140 MPGe in city conditions and 125 MPGe on the highway. The efficiency ratings for the anticipated Model 3 Long Range RWD are expected to be notable as well.
Lucid Air: A Premium Offering with Limited Reach
While the Lucid Air is a marvel in automotive engineering, its market is somewhat limited, given that it competes in the full-size luxury sedan segment. Despite this niche positioning, Lucid Motors has reported a noteworthy increase in deliveries—a 70% year-over-year rise, equating to 2,394 vehicles delivered in the second quarter. With the impending release of the Gravity SUV, starting at an estimated $80,000, Lucid’s sales figures could see a substantial boost.
