FYI: Last week, we delved into the world of Car Shop Glow, a Tokyo-based custom LED tail light manufacturer and RX-7 specialty store. This article covers an exhilarating convoy cruise organized by Car Shop Glow with several custom Mazda cars through the city, ending at Tokyo’s iconic Parking Areas (PA).
Inside Car Shop Glow: A Tokyo-Based Haven for Mazda Enthusiasts
Car Shop Glow, located near central Tokyo, has garnered a reputation among automotive aficionados for its custom LED tail lights and RX-7 expertise. Recently, the CSG team orchestrated a thrilling convoy cruise featuring customer-owned Mazda vehicles, giving us an excellent glimpse into Tokyo’s vibrant car culture.
The Convoy: A Mazda Extravaganza
Coordinating a convoy of five FD3S RX-7s, one RX-8, and a Eunos Roadster (Miata/MX-5) through Tokyo’s rush hour traffic was a daunting task, but oh, was it worth it! The sight of these meticulously modified vehicles cruising together was a spectacle for the senses.
Navigating Tokyo’s Rigorous Vehicle Regulations
In Japan, strict regulations aim to curb vehicle modifications, posing challenges for enthusiasts driving heavily modified cars on public roads. Despite this, the participants in our group proudly displayed their tuned Mazdas, blending aesthetics and high performance.
A Smooth Ride Through Tokyo’s Iconic PAs
Our journey took us from Car Shop Glow’s headquarters in Tokyo’s Nerima Ward to Umihotaru PA. Surprisingly, the convoy stayed together, forming a striking formation that turned heads throughout the city. This seamless drive through Tokyo, especially under the bay tunnel surrounded by reverberating roundabouts, was an experience in itself. My eardrums were still ringing by the end, but isn’t that part of the thrill?
Umihotaru PA: The Perfect Regroup Spot
Umihotaru PA provided an ideal spot for our convoy to regroup, taking advantage of its easy parking and convenience. Unlike my previous winter visit during TAS in January, this mid-summer cruise under the scorching heat of 35°C was a grueling test for both the vehicles and their occupants.
The Climactic Finale at Daikoku PA
Our final destination for the night was Daikoku PA, a legendary spot in the Japanese car enthusiast community. As we parked our seven Mazdas almost in a perfect line amidst a bustling PA, the camaraderie and understanding within the car community were palpable. This unity underscored the mutual respect and support enthusiasts have for each other’s passion projects.
A Memorable Day with Car Shop Glow
This epic ride not only showcased the prowess of Car Shop Glow’s custom Mazda creations but also highlighted the vibrancy of Japan’s automotive culture. The experience was immortalized in a stunning 4K video shot by our friend Jack, capturing every exhilarating moment of this remarkable cruise.
