FYI: Nissan will soon gain access to Tesla’s expansive Supercharger Network, enhancing the electric vehicle landscape in North America.
Nissan to Join Tesla’s NACS-Compatible Supercharger Network
A recent update on Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) page suggests that Nissan electric vehicles are on the verge of accessing the Supercharger Network. Nissan became the first Japanese automaker to adopt the NACS last year, reaffirming its commitment to this growing standard in the electric vehicle industry.
Automaker List Update
Tesla’s NACS page is a comprehensive resource for tracking which automakers’ non-Tesla vehicles have or will receive access to the Supercharger Network. Currently, Nissan has joined the “Coming Soon” list, alongside General Motors (GM), Volvo, Polestar, and Mercedes-Benz. This list builds on the already supported automakers, which include Ford and Rivian.
Supercharger Network Growth
Tesla presently operates over 15,000 NACS-compatible Supercharger stalls across the United States and Canada. The inclusion of Nissan vehicles will significantly enhance the charging experience for non-Tesla owners, particularly on long-distance trips where reliable and widespread charging options are critical.
Elevating the EV Experience
Tesla’s Supercharger Network is reputed for its extensive reach and dependability, making it a valuable asset for electric vehicle (EV) users in North America. According to a press release from July 2023, Nissan plans to release a NACS adapter in 2024 for its Ariya all-electric crossover SUV. Following this, by 2025, Nissan EVs in the US and Canadian markets will come equipped with a NACS port as standard.
Insights from Nissan Leadership
Jérémie Papin, Chairperson of Nissan Americas, explained the rationale behind adopting the NACS: “Adopting the NACS standard underlines Nissan’s commitment to making electric mobility even more accessible as we follow our Ambition 2030 long-term vision of greater electrification. We are happy to provide access to thousands more fast chargers for Nissan EV drivers, adding confidence and convenience when planning long-distance journeys.”
Conclusion
Nissan’s integration into Tesla’s Supercharger Network marks a significant milestone in the electric vehicle sector, promising enhanced convenience and reliability for EV users. This strategic partnership aligns with Nissan’s long-term vision of increased electrification, providing a robust infrastructure to support the growing EV community.
