Porsche Unveils Special Edition 911 Turbo for 50th Anniversary at 2024 Monterey Car Week
Porsche officially introduced the first 911 Turbo, known internally as the 930, at the 1974 Paris Motor Show. This model soon earned a reputation for blending supercar performance with daily usability, standing out in an era devoid of electric cars, and competing against the finest from Maranello. Fast forward five decades, and Porsche has unveiled the 911 Turbo 50th Anniversary Edition at the 2024 Monterey Car Week, continuing this celebrated tradition of excellence.
A Tribute to Turbo Heritage
The 911 Turbo 50th Anniversary Edition masterfully integrates premium performance with luxurious details, paying homage to its illustrious predecessors. Exclusive body graphics and badging adorn the vehicle, while the Turbo-specific accent color, TurboNite, makes its first appearance on a 911 model. Grey finishes enhance various elements like the rear wing, lower rear fascia, side mirror bases, and intake grille. Additionally, LED projections of a turbocharger icon greet passengers upon opening the doors.
Classic Meets Contemporary
Inside, the cabin features a blend of retro and modern elements. The seat centers and inner door panels are upholstered in Porsche’s timeless Mackenzie tartan pattern, complemented by Turbo Night color accents. Illuminated "turbo 50" script appears on the door sill panels and in other areas, adding a bespoke touch. The A-pillars, sun visors, and roof liner are crafted from Race-Tex, a perforated synthetic suede, enhancing the interior’s premium feel.
Standard Upgrades and Unique Packages
Several high-performance options are standard in this special edition, including:
- Black-tipped sports exhaust system
- Black brake calipers
- Suspension with active dampers
- 0.4-inch lower ride height
- Front axle lift system
- Colored matrix LED headlights
For enthusiasts seeking a more nostalgic experience, the Heritage Design package draws inspiration from 1970s models. This optional package features Aventurine Green Metallic paint, with White Silk Matte body graphics available upon request. The dials in the gauge cluster and the Sport Chrono Clock also receive a retro green finish.
Power and Performance
Based on the 2025 911 Turbo S, the 50th Anniversary Edition maintains its impressive performance credentials. It houses a twin-turbocharged 3.7-liter flat-six engine, which delivers 640 horsepower to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Weighing in at 3,649 pounds, this powerhouse can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of approximately 205 mph.
Limited Availability and Pricing
Only 1,974 units of this commemorative model will be available worldwide. The first deliveries are expected in late 2024, with U.S. pricing starting at $263,095, including a $1,995 delivery charge. Porsche has not specified how many units will be allocated to the U.S. market.
A Glance at History
The 911 Turbo concept, known as the 911 RSR Turbo, made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1973. Remarkably, the first-ever 911 Turbo was delivered to Ferdinand Porsche’s daughter, Louise Piëch, on her 70th birthday in 1973. This silver prototype is now proudly displayed at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.
