FYI: The McLaren Automotive-enhanced Mercedes-Benz SLR stands out with its exclusive “McLaren Edition,” showcasing unparalleled upgrades that redefine performance and rarity.
### A Unique Collaboration: McLaren Meets Mercedes-Benz
The prestigious partnership between McLaren Automotive and Mercedes-Benz has reached new heights with the creation of the “McLaren Edition” SLR. Originally propelled by the demands of SLR enthusiasts, this edition boasts significant enhancements in handling, ride quality, and aerodynamics.
### Cutting-Edge Enhancements
This distinct variant features notable aerodynamic developments, including a carbon-Kevlar front floor and wheel arch vents reminiscent of the 722 GT style. A newly designed rear diffuser, a larger air brake, and a lightweight ceramic-coated exhaust system bring increased agility to its supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 engine, which catapults the vehicle into elite supercar contention.
### Exclusivity Beyond the Stirling Moss Variant
Producing only 25 units, the McLaren Edition is even rarer than the admired Stirling Moss variant. Key modifications, such as a 15% increase in downforce over the SLR 722 Edition and a reduction in ride height by 10 mm achieved through revised springs and dampers, add to its mechanical prowess. Additionally, reimagined front intakes offer aesthetic appeal while subtly echoing the emblematic McLaren logo.
### A Collector’s Dream Available at Auction
One of these rare editions, initially crafted for the Japanese market, is now available through RM Sotheby’s. In 2017, it underwent a McLaren Edition makeover, enhancing it with features like 722 S-spec wheels, tinted lights, and a refined black Alcantara interior integrated with red stitching, MSO headrest embroidery, and an Alcantara steering wheel. Its striking metallic red paint transforms to black in low light, a testament to its unique visual impact.
### A Testament to Craftsmanship
Post-MSO completion in 2019, the vehicle returned to Japan, where it has seen minimal use, with approximately 1,200 km recorded on the odometer. The McLaren Edition not only represents an engineering marvel but also remains a beacon of collector rarity and performance elegance.
