FYI: The anticipated long-range Ram 1500 REV electric pickup has been canceled, shifting the spotlight to the innovative Ramcharger technology.
Ram 1500 REV Electric Pickup’s Long-Range Model Axed
In a surprising turn of events, Stellantis has shelved the long-range variant of the much-anticipated Ram 1500 REV electric pickup. Originally boasting a 229 kWh battery capable of extending the vehicle’s reach to a whopping 500 miles, this model was poised to become the champion of range in the electric pickup segment. However, the recent strategic decision has trimmed it from Ram’s burgeoning electric portfolio.
According to insider sources at MoparInsiders, Stellantis circulated a confidential email directing suppliers to halt all activities tied to this venture. As a result, focus will now shift to the standard-range version, still scheduled to debut in 2026. This version includes a 168 kWh battery that promises an impressive 350-mile range, placing it squarely between the 320-mile range of the Ford F-150 Lightning and the nearly 500-mile capacity of Chevrolet’s Silverado EV.
The Rise of the Ramcharger
Stellantis’ decision to discontinue the long-range Ram 1500 REV may be attributed to an emphasis on advancing Ramcharger technology. This cutting-edge, range-extended hybrid concept highlights an innovative fusion of a 92 kWh battery with a 3.6-liter V6 engine, functioning exclusively as an onboard generator. Notably, the Ramcharger distinguishes itself as the first series-hybrid pickup truck globally, with expected availability in the first half of next year, preceding the standard-range RAM 1500 REV.
The Ramcharger is engineered for practical utility and power. Featuring dual motors, all-wheel drive muscle, and a combined force of 663 horsepower, it stands out in the competitive market. The integrated battery allows for a 141-mile journey on electric power alone, complemented by its generator-powered extension for continuous operation without direct wheel connection.
Charging Versatility and Power Output
This versatile pickup offers multiple charging options, from plugging into AC or DC sources to benefiting from vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) capabilities. A standout feature is its onboard power panel, delivering up to 7.2 kW of electricity, ideal for tools and appliances while on the go. Its capacity extends to a maximum towing limit of 14,000 pounds, affirming its potential as a leader among hybrid work trucks.
A New Niche in the Electric Truck Market
With the industry crowded with all-electric vehicles, the Ramcharger’s unique hybrid nature opens a fresh niche. Stellantis’ agile switch in strategy could set the trajectory for a new era in pickup technology, provided timely delivery and market acceptance.
In conclusion, while the long-range Ram 1500 REV has bowed out, the innovative Ramcharger is poised to capture attention and redefine expectations in the hybrid pickup segment.
