Audi Unveils the Redesigned 2025 A5 and S5: A New Era for Sedans
Audi is embarking on a transformative journey. The renowned automaker announced that the beloved Audi A4 will be discontinued after the 2025 model year, leaving its mantle to be taken up by the redesigned 2025 Audi A5 and S5 sedans. This major shift signals the introduction of Audi’s new gas platform, set to underpin around ten new models in the coming years.

The 2025 Audi A5 will feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, delivering an impressive 268 horsepower and coming standard with all-wheel drive. Meanwhile, the sportier S5 will house a robust 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine, cranking out 362 horsepower, also coupled with all-wheel drive, ensuring superior performance and handling.
Despite Audi’s ambitious push toward full battery-electric vehicles, the company isn’t neglecting the current demand for combustion engines. "We will need these vehicles to bridge to the all-electric future," CEO Gernot Döllner said, during a recent press briefing near Munich.
A5 and S5: Design and Styling
The new A5 and S5 models are set to make their debut by spring or early summer of next year, potentially recognized as 2026 models in the United States. The redesigned A5 aims to revitalize interest in sedans with a striking combination of Sportback hatchback aesthetics and the spaciousness of a sedan. The A5 will be larger, wider, and equipped with a software-defined electric architecture designed to adapt to emerging technological advances over the next decade.
However, Audi confirms that North American markets won’t see coupe or convertible versions, nor will the Avant wagon options be available.

The redesigned models feature aesthetically pleasing and functional enhancements. A low-dipping hood leads into a new front fascia with a sizable honeycomb grille and innovative lighting signatures. The LED running lights offer eight customizable patterns, although U.S. regulations restrict changes while the engine is running. At the rear, the wraparound LED taillights feature 60 individual bulbs underscored by an integrated rear spoiler.
One can distinguish the A5 by its dual rectangular exhaust tips, while the S5 showcases all-functional quad tailpipes. The elegant design extends through the vehicle’s body, enhanced by tall air intakes and openings in the lower grille, equipped with sensors to aid driving assistance systems.

The A5 and S5 sedans come with a sophisticated digital interface known as the "Digital Stage." This system includes an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a central 14.5-inch touchscreen interface characterized by its user-friendly navigation and customizable display options. In addition, a 10.9-inch passenger touchscreen allows separate streams or navigational assistance, ensuring a tech-savvy and user-centric cockpit environment.
Voice assistant capabilities, powered by AI, extend beyond vehicle commands to answer everyday queries, creating an interactive and supportive driving experience. Optional Bang & Olufsen headrest speakers enhance the audio experience by creating individual sound zones for the driver and passenger.
Performance Dynamics and Handling
Under the hood, the A5 is equipped with a 268-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the S5 gets a 362-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged V6. Both models include a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The S5 also benefits from adaptive dampers and a sport differential, promising improved handling and a sportier driving experience.
However, the North American versions won’t feature the 48-volt mild-hybrid system available in other markets, a decision rooted in customer preference and negligible EPA gains. The hybrid system, though, would have enhanced efficiency with regenerative braking and smoother transitions at stops.
