FYI: Roush Performance has unveiled a new supercharger kit for the seventh-generation Ford Mustang, increasing its power to a staggering 810 horsepower, available for $9,995. Note that this kit is not available for sale or installation in California.
Roush’s New Supercharger: Boost Your Mustang to 810 Horsepower
Big horsepower for Ford Mustang enthusiasts just got a whole lot easier to achieve. Roush Performance, renowned for its close ties to Ford and its high-performance tuning products, has announced a major upgrade for the seventh-generation Mustang. The new supercharger kit boosts the 5.0-liter V8 engine to an eye-watering 810 horsepower, representing a nearly 70 percent increase from the standard model.
Mustang GT and Dark Horse Compatible
The high-powered upgrade is designed to be compatible with both the Mustang GT and the Mustang Dark Horse. Mustang GT owners, who start with either 480 horsepower (or 486 hp with the optional active exhaust system), and Dark Horse owners, who start with 500 horsepower, can both experience this substantial power increase. Impressively, the supercharger kit is compatible with both automatic and manual transmissions, offering flexibility for all Mustang enthusiasts.
Phase 1 and Phase 2 Options
Roush Performance is presenting the upgrade in two versions: Phase 1 and Phase 2. While full details on the Phase 1 tune have yet to be released, the Phase 2 version pushes the engine to the full 810 horsepower. Initially, only the special Launch Edition of the upgrade, which features the Phase 2 tune, will be available. This exclusive edition also includes the signature of company founder Jack Roush on the supercharger housing, adding a touch of heritage and prestige to the upgrade.
Affordable Power
What’s just as exciting as the power boost is the price—$9,995 for the entire supercharger kit. This makes it a compelling option for Mustang enthusiasts looking to elevate their driving experience while keeping costs reasonable. Some Ford dealerships even offer turnkey solutions, providing Mustang GTs equipped with the full upgrade for under $50,000, making this an enticing offer in the high-performance market.
Technical Specifications
While Ford’s supercharger upgrade uses a Whipple twin-screw supercharger, Roush goes a different route. Their choice is a Magnuson Roots-style supercharger, specifically an inverted Eaton TVS R2650 with a front inlet. The kit also includes essential hardware such as dual intercoolers, a Bosch PCE intercooler pump, twin cone fuel injectors with optimized director plates, and 84-millimeter pulleys. According to Roush, the maximum boost pressure stands at an impressive 13 psi at 7,500 rpm.
Warranty and Compliance
Phase 2 tunes come with a limited parts warranty, giving some peace of mind for this high-powered upgrade. If the Phase 1 tune is installed by an Automotive Service Excellence certified technician or a Ford dealer, it includes a full powertrain warranty. However, it’s important to note that this upgrade is not approved for sale or installation in California or any other state requiring an Executive Order (EO) number.
Conclusion
Roush Performance continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible with Ford’s beloved Mustang. With a substantial increase in horsepower, an attractive price point, and the backing of Roush’s reputable engineering, this new supercharger kit is set to make waves in the Mustang community.
