FYI: rPlus Energies kicks off monumental Green River Energy Center project, the largest solar-plus-storage development in the U.S., with 400 MW solar PV and 400 MW/1,600 MWh battery storage leveraging Tesla Megapacks.
Utah-based rPlus Energies has officially commenced the construction of the Green River Energy Center—an ambitious 400 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) and 400 MW/1,600 MWh battery storage project in Eastern Utah. This marks a significant stride towards sustainable energy solutions, with Tesla Megapacks slated to serve as the project’s battery storage system.
A Landmark Solar-Plus-Storage Initiative
The Green River Energy Center, expected to be one of the largest solar-plus-storage endeavors in the United States, aims to provide a substantial energy boost to the region. Once operational, it will supply power to PacifiCorp under a detailed power purchase agreement. This project underscores the growing trend of integrating renewable energy solutions with cutting-edge battery storage technology to ensure a stable and reliable power supply.
Governor’s Support and Economic Impact
Utah Governor Spencer Cox expressed his enthusiasm at the project’s groundbreaking event. Highlighting the broader implications of such a venture, Governor Cox emphasized that the Green River Energy Center represents a major step in Utah’s sustainable energy journey. He noted, "This project is being built in rural Utah, by rural Utahns, and for all of Utah. When rural Utah thrives, the entire state prospers. Today, we’re not just breaking ground—we’re building a future of affordable, abundant energy in Utah."
This massive project has secured over $1 billion in construction debt financing and is projected to create approximately 500 jobs, many of which will benefit local workers, thereby boosting Emery County’s economy. The influx of job opportunities is expected to enhance tax revenue, strengthen public services, and offer long-term employment for the region’s residents.
Collaborative Efforts and High-Tech Solutions
Sundt Construction has been appointed as the contractor for the project, with EliTe Solar supplying the solar modules and Tesla providing the Megapack battery storage systems. Luigi Resta, President and CEO of rPlus Energies, highlighted the collaborative nature of the project. "It’s the partners that make this project special, that have made this monumental project possible. From our equipment providers to the onsite talent, and the support of the local and regional community, we owe this project’s success to each of you," he affirmed.
A Future of Renewable Energy
The Green River Energy Center is more than just a construction project; it is a testament to what coordinated efforts in the renewable energy sector can achieve. With a commitment to delivering sustainable power and spurring regional economic growth, this project stands as a landmark example of modern energy infrastructure in the United States.
