FYI: The Skoda Elroq RS has arrived as an electrifying new contender in the sporty EV market with remarkable speed and range.
Czech manufacturer Skoda is accelerating its electric vehicle lineup with the exciting debut of the Skoda Elroq RS. This compact crossover offers an exhilarating drive, achieving 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.4 seconds, surpassing the previous performance of the pre-revised Enyaq RS, which accomplished the same in 6.5 seconds.
Electrifying Performance
The Skoda Elroq RS is designed with a dual-motor powertrain, delivering a substantial 340 horsepower (250 kilowatts), marking a 40 hp improvement over its cousin, the Elroq 85X. Built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, the Elroq RS attains a top velocity of 111 mph (180 km/h), providing an exciting yet practical choice for performance enthusiasts seeking an eco-friendly option.
Enhanced Charging and Battery Capacity
Equipped with a robust 79-kilowatt hour (84 kWh gross) battery, the Elroq RS provides notable range and quick charging capabilities. Fast charging allows a 10% to 80% power boost in roughly 26 minutes, thanks to a peak absorption rate of 185 kW. Using an 11 kW Level 2 home charger, a full charge from empty takes about eight hours. The vehicle boasts a reachable WLTP-rated range of 341 miles (550 kilometers), which is slightly less than the Elroq 85’s but compensates with faster charging.
Dynamic Design and Features
Presented with a more assertive body kit peppered with black accents, the Elroq RS embodies the distinctive, sporty charisma inherent to Skoda’s RS models. Inside, drivers enjoy a sport-inspired cockpit featuring a three-spoke steering wheel and vibrant lime green stitching. Comfort also arrives standard via sports seats equipped with integrated headrests, heating, and massage functions.
Safety and Control
Advanced engineering extends beyond just speed. The Elroq RS features an adaptive DCC chassis system and reinforced brakes designed to combat overheating. It also sports two-piston red calipers, ensuring utmost control and safety.
Anticipated Market Position
While pricing remains under wraps, the Elroq is expected to maintain its reputation as the most budget-friendly EV in Skoda’s portfolio. With the Elroq 85 Sportline retailing around $54,000 (€48,400) in Germany, the RS model will be priced competitively, ensuring it complements rather than overshadows its larger sibling, the Volkswagen ID.4-sized Enyaq.
Conclusion
With its impressive speed, enhanced efficiency, and affordable market positioning, the Skoda Elroq RS stands poised to appeal to eco-conscious speed lovers. As Skoda continues to electrify their range, the Elroq RS represents a significant step in offering cutting-edge performance without compromising value.
