Tesla Among Least Likely Car Brands to Be Involved in Fatal Accidents, Study Reveals
A recent study conducted by vehicle history report firm EpicVIN has unveiled a ranking of car brands with the lowest percentage of fatal injuries in reported accidents. According to the analysis, electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla ranks as one of the ten least likely car brands to be involved in fatal accidents.
Methodology and Data Collection
EpicVIN’s study utilized data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Fatality and Injury Reporting System Tool. The study focused on occupants involved in fatal vehicle crashes between 2017 and 2022. By analyzing the types of injuries sustained, the firm was able to determine the percentage of fatal injuries relative to the total number of occupants involved in these fatal accidents.
Ranking and Key Findings
Car brands were ranked based on the lowest to highest percentage of fatal injuries among total occupants involved in fatal crashes. Tesla secured the third position in this ranking. Out of 490 Tesla occupants involved in fatal accidents during the five-year period, only 141, or 28.78%, sustained fatal injuries.
Comparative Analysis with Other Brands
Just above Tesla, Land Rover exhibited a fatal injury rate of 23.65%. Out of 575 Land Rover occupants involved in fatal accidents, only 136 sustained fatal injuries. Ram, meanwhile, showed an even lower rate. With 5,593 Ram occupants involved in fatal accidents, only 1,045 resulted in fatal injuries, translating to a fatal injury rate of just 18.68%.
Expert Insights
Jurgis Plikaitis, CEO of EpicVIN, commented on the study’s findings. "With many of the brands on this list specializing in larger vehicles like SUVs and pickup trucks, it is expected that they would provide better protection in high-speed accidents. However, seeing brands like Audi and Mercedes-Benz on the list, which offer a wider range of vehicles, suggests that further research is needed. Adhering to general rules of the road, wearing a seatbelt, avoiding impaired driving, and regularly checking tire pressure are all crucial for minimizing serious incidents," said Plikaitis.
Conclusion
The comprehensive analysis by EpicVIN highlights the importance of vehicle design and safety measures in reducing fatal injuries in accidents. Tesla’s impressive ranking showcases the brand’s commitment to safety, reflecting its innovation in vehicle technology.
