FYI: Both Toyota and Subaru have slashed prices on their electric vehicles in an effort to increase demand.
Toyota and Subaru Revamp Electric Vehicle Pricing to Spark Interest
Toyota Motor Corporation announced a significant price reduction for its bZ4X BEV recently, aiming to ignite enthusiasm for their all-electric models amidst sluggish demand. Following Toyota’s lead, Subaru has trimmed the price of its 2025 Subaru Solterra EV by a notable $6,500. Should these price cuts not stimulate buyers, Subaru has a new trim level in the works to boost its lineup.
Subaru’s Move to Competitive Pricing
The latest price adjustment positions Subaru’s Solterra at a more competitive cost compared to its rival, Toyota’s AWD bZ4X. Despite its appealing features, the Solterra has struggled to attract a substantial market share in the United States since launching. With a starting price tag of $46,340 and a modest range of 220 miles, potential buyers have been hesitant. To enhance its appeal, Subaru’s recent price cut sees the Solterra’s Premium trim start at $38,495, now undercutting Toyota’s EV by $655.
2025 Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X AWD Pricing Breakdown
With the substantial price reduction, Subaru’s Solterra offers more affordability across its lineup, marking price drops of $6,500 to $7,000 for the Limited and Touring models respectively, when compared to the 2024 models. Here’s an overview of the updated pricing:
- Subaru Solterra Premium: $38,495
- Subaru Solterra Limited: $41,995
- Subaru Solterra Touring: $44,995
-
Subaru Solterra Onyx Edition: $45,495
- Toyota bZ4X XLE AWD: $39,150
- Toyota bZ4X Nightshade AWD: $40,420
- Toyota bZ4X Limited AWD: $43,880
It’s important to note the standard dealer destination fee of $1,420 still applies to these models.
Introducing the Solterra Onyx Edition
The Onyx Edition, already a staple on models like the Outback and Ascent, has now been added to the Solterra lineup. It brings a fresh, sleek aesthetic with gloss black styling elements, including a front underguard, 20-inch alloy wheels, distinct two-tone exterior options, and black accents across the roof and badges, offering buyers a blend of style and sophistication.
Subaru Incentives Sweeten the Deal
Subaru further enhances its offering by introducing a new incentive: up to 10 days of complimentary rentals through the Subaru Just Drive program when purchasing or leasing a new 2025 Solterra. This initiative allows customers to experience other Subaru models at participating dealerships, providing potential buyers with added value and driving experience.
Subaru’s aggressive pricing and enticing packages, combined with the potential for a $7,500 tax credit, solidify the Solterra as a compelling contender in the EV market. It’s clear that both Subaru and Toyota are committed to reshaping perceptions and rekindling buyer interest in electric vehicles.
