FYI: Tesla unveils a slew of exciting new features in its summer software update, set to roll out soon. Here’s everything you need to know.
Tesla has officially unveiled the main highlights of its eagerly anticipated summer software update for 2024. Packed with new features, apps, game updates, and a host of improvements, this latest update promises to enhance the driving experience for Tesla owners.
Released in a detailed article on X by the Tesla team on Friday, the summer software update, version 2024.26, is set to be "rolling out soon." This comes after an initial rollout to select employees’ vehicles in recent weeks. Among the standout updates are new parental control options, the reintroduction of YouTube Music and Amazon Music as native apps, and several other feature enhancements.
New Parental Controls
One of the key additions to this update is a robust set of parental controls. These options include the ability to set a maximum speed limit, reduce acceleration to Chill mode, and toggle various safety features such as speed limit warnings, forward collision warnings, and automatic emergency braking. These controls can be activated via a PIN, providing parents with peace of mind when their young ones are driving.
Updated Climate Control Interface
Tesla vehicles will now sport an updated climate menu which aims to simplify the overall look. Many of the visuals that previously resembled buttons have been replaced with text-only icons, making the interface more streamlined and intuitive.
Music and Entertainment
The update brings back YouTube Music and Amazon Music as native apps, providing more entertainment options for those long drives. In addition, the gaming experience gets a boost with updates to Castle Doombad Classic, which now includes the complete original game and supports touch controls. Other gaming updates include the Polytopia Elyrion and Vampire Survivors “Laborratory” updates.
Navigation and Utility Enhancements
Another significant improvement comes in the form of enhanced navigation. Search results will now display sub-destinations such as specific airport terminals, providing more precise routing details. The update also introduces weather forecasts and air quality indicators. By tapping on the temperature icon, users can view detailed weather information and even spot an air quality indicator right on the status bar.
Additional Functionalities
Other notable additions include:
- One-time Scheduled Preconditioning and Charging: Users can now set a one-time schedule for preconditioning and charging, adjust schedules per day, and set a charge end time.
- Brightness Slider for Ambient Lighting: Users now have the option to adjust ambient lighting brightness to their liking.
- Reduced Fan Speed During Calls: To prioritize call audio, the system will reduce the fan speed when a phone call is active.
- Revamped Climate Controls for Model 3 & Y: The climate control interface has been redesigned to be more intuitive and less visually complex, enhancing the user experience.
- Zoom Updates: Zoom Video Conference will now automatically switch to full screen when the car is in Park.
- TeslaMic Support in the US: Tesla owners can now elevate their Caraoke sessions with the TeslaMic.
- FSD Supervised for MCU1 Vehicles: Support for FSD Supervised 12.3.6 is now available for MCU1 (Tegra) vehicles.
