FYI: Tesla’s latest app update now enables filtering charging options for non-Tesla electric vehicles based on power levels.
Tesla has introduced an innovative feature in its latest mobile app update, providing enhanced functionalities for non-Tesla electric vehicles (EVs). This update, unveiled in version 4.35.1 of Tesla’s mobile application, was first reported this week and adds significant convenience for EV owners using Tesla’s charging network.
New Filtering Options for Non-Tesla EVs
Not a Tesla App was the first to observe the update, revealing the enhancement in the “Other EV” charging section. Now, users can filter charging stations with a refined dropdown menu that merges availability and distance sorting options into one. Additionally, the update introduces the option to categorize chargers by power levels, specifically between 0-70kW and 71-250kW.

Regular Updates and New Features
Tesla is known for consistently refining its mobile app with new features and subtle improvements. Recently, in version 4.35.0, the company introduced a functionality that prevents the vehicle from waking up when the app is used, which helps conserve battery life.
In recent accolades, J.D. Power recognized Tesla’s mobile app as the top performer among original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), scoring an impressive 847 out of 1,000 points. The app outperformed other notable entries such as Mercedes me connect (843), My BMW (834), Genesis Intelligent Assistant (833), and My Porsche (800). Meanwhile, apps from Subaru, VinFast, Volkswagen, and Chevy were ranked lower.
Powerwall and Home Energy Demos
This April, Tesla expanded its app features to include demos for Powerwall and other home energy solutions. This demo allows users without Tesla’s home battery or solar products to explore the ecosystem functionality available to Tesla owners. Importantly, this demo is accessible to anyone, even those without any electric vehicle, by opting to "Continue as Guest."
Upcoming Robotaxi Platform
During the same period, Tesla also gave a sneak peek into an upcoming Robotaxi ride-sharing app. The teased design is consistent with the existing app’s interface. Originally scheduled for an August launch, this Robotaxi platform’s announcement has been delayed. Tesla enthusiasts and shareholders are now anticipating further details during the company’s Q2 2024 earnings call.
Closing Thoughts
Tesla’s continuous app enhancements demonstrate its commitment to improving user experience, offering advanced features to both Tesla and non-Tesla EV owners. By broadening its charging network’s utility and adding exciting new functionalities, Tesla maintains its edge in the ever-evolving EV landscape.
