FYI: Tesla has introduced a new, cost-effective variant of the revamped Model Y in the U.S., featuring a Long Range All-Wheel-Drive configuration. This significant move broadens options for consumers eager to own a Tesla Model Y.
Tesla Debuts New Model Y Trim in the U.S.
Tesla has unveiled a new variant of the popular Model Y, dubbed “Juniper,” featuring a Long Range All-Wheel-Drive option available in the United States. Prior to incentives, this model starts at an attractive $48,990, making it significantly more affordable for consumers interested in the latest Tesla offerings.
Expansion Continues: New Model Enters U.S. Market
The introduction of this new model marks Tesla’s first venture into offering a non-Launch Series version of the refreshed Model Y on American soil. Recently, Tesla has ramped up production of these non-Launch configurations at its Gigafactory in Texas, signaling a strategic shift to broaden its market reach with more budget-friendly options.
Long Range All-Wheel-Drive Specs
While the recently released Long Range All-Wheel-Drive trim closely mirrors the performance of the Launch Series, there are slight differences:
– 327-mile range identical to the Launch Series
– Top speed of 125 MPH
– Accelerates from 0-60 MPH in 4.6 seconds, slightly slower than the Launch Series’ 4.1 seconds
Additionally, unlike the Launch Series, Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability isn’t included in the price. Consumers can opt to purchase this feature for $8,000 or subscribe on a monthly basis for $99.
A Promising Start to Q2
With the new, more accessible Model Y configuration now available, Tesla can better cater to a broader audience. As the second quarter unfolds, this could potentially boost Tesla’s sales performance after the company reported underwhelming delivery numbers for the first quarter. The delay attributed to production line adjustments for the new Model Y design caused significant manufacturing downtime, impacting several weeks of operations.
Looking Ahead
Despite lower-than-expected deliveries and inventory exceeding deliveries by nearly 22,000 units, Tesla remains optimistic. The company expects further insights into these metrics during its earnings call scheduled for April 22.
