FYI: Tesla Cybertruck has entered South Korea for certification, marking potential expansion outside North America.
Tesla Cybertruck Arrives in South Korea for Certification
Tesla’s all-electric pickup, the Cybertruck, has ventured into South Korea for potential certification, signaling a probable expansion into markets outside North America. This development could make South Korea the first market beyond the United States and Mexico to approve the Cybertruck for sales and operation.
Currently, the Cybertruck is officially available only in the United States and Mexico. However, while a few have made their way to other countries, including being owned by some high-profile individuals, their sales remain limited to these two nations. There are also indications that Canada might soon join this list, with widespread sales expected to commence next month.
South Korean Certification Efforts Underway
South Korean officials have recently confirmed their intentions to certify the Cybertruck for passenger sales. Bloter, a local media outlet, reported that a Cybertruck is currently with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (KATRI) for certification. An official disclosed to Bloter:
"The Tesla Cybertruck came to the Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute (KATRI) in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province for certification purposes."
The official further clarified that this model was sent directly by Tesla, emphasizing the automaker’s active role in the certification process. Unlike the usual practice of individuals or companies importing vehicles for certification, here Tesla is involved firsthand.
"KATRI receives various vehicles for certification, including those imported directly by individuals or companies, but in the case of the Cybertruck, the seller (Tesla) is in the process of receiving certification directly."
Future Market Plans and Global Demand
While Tesla hasn’t committed to a specific timeline for entering the South Korean market, the move indicates forward momentum in that direction. There are also whispers of an “international version” of the Cybertruck—a more compact model tailored to navigate the narrower streets commonly found in European and Asian locales.
Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, hinted at this potential during a recent social media update, acknowledging the considerable interest in the Cybertruck from regions outside North America. This international variant could cater to these unique market needs.
Conclusion
The inclusion of the Cybertruck in South Korea’s certification process marks a significant milestone in Tesla’s global expansion strategy. With active steps being taken to certify the vehicle, South Korea could soon become the third country to offer the Cybertruck, followed potentially by Canada. The prospect of an international version further fuels anticipation across global markets, signaling exciting times ahead for Tesla enthusiasts worldwide.

OMG this is so amazing!! Tesla is finally going global with the Cybertruck. Can’t wait to see them on the streets here. Go Elon!! 🚀🚀
Why they even bother with this ugly thing in korea? Its not going to sell. Waste of time and money if you ask me.
Isnt it interesting that Tesla is doing this themselves, instead of letting someone else handle certification? Seems like they really care about quality control.
Yeah, they want to make sure it meets all the standards without any shortcuts. Good on them!
Or maybe they don’t trust anyone else with their baby 😂
Another overpriced toy for the rich. How many of us will actually be able to afford it? None. Typical.
So whos going to buy this tank? Lol, good luck parking it anywhere in Seoul! 🙃
