FYI: Buyers can now pre-order a Cybertruck with a frunk-mounted generator.
Armored Cybertruck for Off-Roading and Combat Ready for Pre-Order
A new era for the Tesla Cybertruck begins as Archimedes Defense introduces an overlanding and combat-ready variant. Specializing in high-performance power generators for government agencies, Archimedes Defense offers a unique frunk-mounted generator and an array of protective upgrades for the Cybertruck.
Innovative Frunk Generator
Archimedes Defense has engineered a generator, named Genset, tailored to fit into the Cybertruck’s front trunk, or frunk. This versatile generator runs on various fuels, including jet fuel, diesel, and biodiesel. It boasts a single-piston design with a hefty 125 kW maximum charging capacity, and comes equipped with a cable to recharge other electric vehicles when needed. Notably, the Genset utilizes Tesla’s proprietary NACS connector and includes adapters for non-NACS vehicles.
Robust Protection Packages
Archimedes’ enhancements, branded as Sting and developed in collaboration with Tesla tuner Unplugged Performance’s upfitting division, are suited for both civilian and military applications. The upgrades are available in three distinct packages:
-
Sting Baja Package:
- Includes frunk-mounted Genset generator
- Adds Starlink connectivity, also a Tesla venture, with a satellite receiver mounted in the truck bed
-
Sting Protector Package:
- Features an off-road kit
- Provides steel armor capable of resisting 7.62-mm assault rifle rounds, ideal for moderate-threat environments
- Sting APC Package:
- Offers advanced steel and armor plating
- Shields against 14.5-mm heavy machine gun rounds
- Includes protection against IEDs and landmines, catering to high-threat situations
Pricing and Tesla’s Upcoming Range Extender
While pricing for these armored upgrades remains undisclosed, Tesla itself plans to release a range extender for the Cybertruck. Scheduled for early 2025, the range extender resembles a toolbox and fits against the back of the cab. This add-on, priced at approximately $16,000, will extend the Cybertruck’s range to an estimated total of 470 miles.
Aside from these enhancements, Tesla has increased the starting price of the Cybertruck to nearly $100,000, following the removal of the more affordable rear-wheel-drive model. The base version now features all-wheel drive, delivering 600 hp and an estimated 318 miles of range.
Conclusion
The introduction of Archimedes Defense’s generator and protective packages marks a significant upgrade path for the Tesla Cybertruck. From robust armor to a powerful and versatile generator, the Cybertruck is now a formidable option for adventurers and professionals operating in high-risk environments.
