FYI: The Tesla Cybertruck is poised to integrate an important component of its Full Self-Driving suite, with a focus on enhancing parking assistance, making it partially autonomous.
Tesla Cybertruck to Integrate Parking Assistance Feature Soon
The awaited Tesla Cybertruck is set to receive one aspect of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) suite, according to a key figure from Tesla’s AI and Autopilot team. While the Cybertruck has not yet been equipped with the complete FSD capabilities available in other Tesla models, meaningful advancements are imminent.
Full Self-Driving Suite Breakdown
The Full Self-Driving (Supervised) suite includes seven pivotal functions:
- Navigate on Autopilot
- Auto Lane Change
- Autopark
- Summon
- Smart Summon
- Autosteer on City Streets
- Traffic and Stop Sign Control
These functionalities cater to automating various driving responsibilities, albeit with the driver remaining attentive and ready to intervene.
Cybertruck’s Journey to Partial Autonomy
Unlike Tesla’s other models—Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y—which already feature the FSD suite, the Cybertruck has yet to incorporate these semi-autonomous functionalities. However, strides are soon to be made in that direction.
Tesla Autopilot and AI team member, Ashok Elluswamy, recently hinted at an upcoming feature update via a Twitter post. Elluswamy’s subtle confirmation suggests that the Cybertruck will unveil a feature from the FSD suite this weekend, likely in a limited release.
"We are glad that you finally learnt how to park yourself. Looking forward to you showing this off this weekend." — Ashok Elluswamy (@aelluswamy), September 4, 2024
This hints at Tesla prepping the Cybertruck to integrate certain FSD Supervised suite capabilities.
Starting with Parking Assistance
Elluswamy had earlier mentioned in late August that the FSD rollout for the Cybertruck would commence with parking assistance features. Given the Cybertruck’s considerable size, these features are likely paramount for ease of use.
"Cybertruck will start with parking assistance features, given that it ain’t exactly the easiest vehicle to park. Initial release is slated for end of this week. FSD for Cybertruck expected in Sep." — Ashok Elluswamy (@aelluswamy), August 21, 2024
Although a full FSD suite for the Cybertruck is projected to be available later this month, Tesla’s timelines can occasionally fluctuate.
Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, had indicated back in May that the FSD for the Cybertruck was a few months away, suggesting the current timeframe aligns with those projections.
Conclusion
With parking assistance features on the horizon, the Tesla Cybertruck is poised to make a significant leap toward partial autonomy. As Tesla continues to innovate and roll out pertinent updates, Cybertruck owners can soon expect enhanced driving functionality tailored to their needs.
