FYI: Tesla Cybertruck Spotted Testing Full Self-Driving in Florida
Last week, a Tesla Cybertruck was observed undergoing Full Self-Driving (FSD) testing in Florida. This sighting coincides with Tesla’s upcoming release of its FSD software specifically designed for the Cybertruck, slated to roll out later this month.
FSD Supervised Testing in Florida
Tesla’s advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) operators were seen testing the Cybertruck’s FSD capabilities in Florida last Thursday, as reported by Chuck Cook. Cook, renowned in the Tesla community for his comprehensive FSD videos and particularly his tests of unprotected left turns, identified the ADAS operators during their maneuvers with the Cybertruck. This sighting aligns with the deployment of Tesla’s FSD v12.5, which is anticipated to be the first software version extended to the Cybertruck.
Elon Musk’s Recent Announcements
During a virtual address at the X Takeover event in California, Elon Musk confirmed that the Cybertruck would receive the FSD software in the next "two to four-ish" weeks, contingent upon the success of ongoing tests. Tesla’s FSD Supervised v12.5 is gradually being rolled out, initially to HW4-equipped Model Y vehicles. The company intends to widen this deployment across more vehicle models soon.
Expanding FSD Software
Despite Tesla beginning the rollout of FSD v12.5.1 and v12.5.1.1 over the past fortnight, the software has not yet reached HW3 vehicles. However, Musk has stated that this expansion is expected to commence within the week.
Last year, Musk had mentioned that the Cybertruck was a lower priority for FSD implementation due to its comparatively smaller presence on the roads compared to other Tesla models. However, with production ramping up at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, and recent commencement of test drives for the Cybertruck, the emphasis on its FSD capabilities is gaining momentum.
Cybertruck Production and Testing
Tesla has been intensifying Cybertruck production, providing insights into the vehicle’s real-world capabilities. Recent test drives showcased the Cybertruck’s potential, emphasizing its practicality as a robust work truck.
