Tesla’s Innovative LA Supercharger Diner and Drive-In Nears Second Screen Installation
Tesla’s innovative Supercharger station in Los Angeles, which features a 1950s-themed diner and drive-in movie theater, is nearing the installation of its second outdoor screen. According to recent updates, work crews have begun addressing the power line issue that has delayed this phase of the project.
A video shared by the 247Tesla YouTube channel highlights significant progress: one end of the problematic power line has been disconnected, suggesting that the installation of the second screen may begin shortly. This development brings Tesla’s ambitious project closer to its grand vision.
Though the parking area has been graded and is currently housing several vehicles, much of the recent activity has centered on interior work. Tesla broke ground on this project last September, but interior construction of the diner commenced only in late March. The project has now crossed the nine-month mark and appears to be entering its final stages.
An Exciting Concept Takes Shape
The plans for this Supercharger and diner site include 32 charging stalls and multi-level restaurant seating, underscoring Tesla’s commitment to creating a unique and functional space for its users. As previously reported, the original idea for this site emerged from a discussion between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his followers on what was then Twitter. Musk imagined a 1950s-inspired diner complete with roller-skating waiters, rock and roll music, and outdoor movie screens playing classic film scenes—all integrated with a Supercharger station.
After a period of dormancy, the project gained momentum last year with several permit approvals, which included a shift in location from Santa Monica to West Hollywood. Architectural renderings of the site show that it’s being modeled after a design by former Twitter user HowardModelS. The design, originally nicknamed "Milliways" after a famous restaurant in "The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy" (a favorite of Musk’s), has evolved but still retains its nostalgic charm.
Looking Ahead
As construction efforts progress, excitement continues to build around Tesla’s unique concept. The combination of a nostalgic diner, a state-of-the-art Supercharger station, and a drive-in movie theater could make it a must-visit destination for both Tesla owners and fans of retro Americana.
