FYI: Tesla’s latest recall affects over 2,400 Cybertrucks due to drive inverter issues that can’t be fixed remotely.
Tesla’s Latest Cybertruck Recall Explained
Tesla is addressing a critical issue affecting its newest all-electric pickup, the Cybertruck, resulting in a recall that requires in-person servicing rather than a typical Over-the-Air update. The problem, reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), appears to be linked to the vehicle’s drive inverter, which may lead to a sudden loss of power to the wheels.
Scope of the Recall
The recall potentially impacts 2,431 Cybertruck vehicles, specifically targeting those built between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024. The vehicles in question are equipped with a particular type of metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) within the drive inverter. This specific component has been identified as a cause of the torque issues experienced, which means the vehicle may cease to respond when the accelerator is pressed.
Timeline of the Issue
The propulsion loss was initially noted on July 31. Tesla responded quickly, launching an investigation on August 5, and by October 23, isolated the problem to vehicles with a specific drive inverter model identified by its part number. It’s important to note that, to date, there have been no accidents, injuries, or fatalities associated with this defect.
Previous Cybertruck Recalls
This mark’s the sixth recall of the Cybertruck, a model that has previously seen recalls over diverse issues such as accelerator pedals, faulty bed trim adhesion, windshield wiper failure, and rearview camera problems. Unlike past recalls, this particular issue is confined to a specific batch of Cybertrucks, not affecting the entire production line.
Conclusion
Tesla continues its commitment to resolving vehicular issues swiftly and efficiently, ensuring customer safety remains paramount. While the company faces challenges, regular and proactive updates underscore Tesla’s resolve to address and rectify issues head-on.
