FYI: The redesigned Tesla Model 3 impresses with significant range improvements, outstripping its EPA rating and highlighting substantial advancements in EV technology.
Redesigned Model 3 Surpasses Range Expectations in Hands-On Test
The revamped Tesla Model 3 is rapidly earning recognition as an underrated gem in Tesla’s lineup, surprising many with its notable enhancements over the previous generation. While it might appear as merely an upgraded version, the improvements are both substantial and impactful. A detailed range test by EV group Out of Spec Studios reveals just how far Tesla has pushed the boundaries of their all-electric sedan.
A Comparative Range Test
In a recent video on their Out of Spec Reviews YouTube channel, the group conducted a comprehensive range test comparing both the reengineered and previous-generation Tesla Model 3 Long Range Dual Motor All Wheel Drive (AWD). Despite having similar batteries and motors, the test aimed to pinpoint the tangible advancements in the new Model 3.
The test strategy was straightforward but thorough. The team fully charged both vehicles and ran them at consistent highway speeds of 70 mph until they were completely depleted. To ensure fairness, they adjusted the results for the older Model 3’s mileage and estimated battery degradation over time.
Remarkable Performance Results
Supporting the two Model 3 units was a Tesla Cybertruck, poised to recharge the vehicles once they came to a halt. The test results were indeed notable.
The older Model 3 AWD managed close to 300 miles, a commendable performance given its age. After factoring in battery degradation, Kyle Conner, one of the channel’s hosts, estimated that the previous-generation Model 3 could have achieved around 310 miles.
Contrastingly, the reengineered Model 3 Long Range AWD far exceeded expectations, surpassing its EPA-rated range of 341 miles by covering an impressive 370 miles at 70 mph. This achievement is particularly striking considering it used the same battery as its older counterpart. As Conner remarked on X (formerly Twitter), “Even accounting for degradation, the new car went 60 miles farther than the old car on a perfect side-by-side comparison.”
Future Prospects for Tesla’s Efficiency
The outstanding performance of the reengineered Model 3 Long Range AWD sets a promising precedent for Tesla’s forthcoming models. It sparks curiosity about the potential efficiency of the Model 3 Long Range Rear Wheel Drive (RWD), hinting at even more improvements on the horizon.
Conclusion
The redesigned Tesla Model 3 has definitively proven its capabilities, showcasing significant advancements in range and efficiency. It’s a clear testament to Tesla’s continual innovation and commitment to enhancing electric vehicle technology.
